File this under "Duh"

Does anyone remember hearing a few weeks ago about a large number of counterfeit security and NYPD badges confiscated in a sting operation along with numerous arrests here in the city? I saw a quick clip (FOX or MSNBC) early one weekend morning and then the story disappeared before I could even make my coffee.
Let me know if any of you saw/heard that as well.

Iran to Target New York?
Erick Stakelbeck
CBN News
February 27, 2007

And the plot thickens. What this Newsweek article doesn't mention is that Iran will likely act here through its proxy, Hezbollah:
Increasing tensions between Washington and Tehran have revived New York Police Department concerns that Iranian agents may already have targeted the city for terror attacks. Such attacks could be aimed at bridges and tunnels, Jewish organizations and Wall Street, NYPD briefers told security execs last fall, according to a person with access to the briefing materials who asked for anonymity because of the sensitive subject matter.
NYPD officials have worried about possible Iranian-sponsored attacks since a series of incidents involving officials of the Iranian Mission to the United Nations. In November 2003, Ahmad Safari and Alireaza Safi, described as Iranian Mission "security" personnel, were detained by transit cops when they were seen videotaping subway tracks from Queens to Manhattan at 1:10 in the morning. The men later left New York. "We're concerned that Iranian agents were engaged in reconnaissance that might be used in an attack against New York City at some future date," Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly told NEWSWEEK. A spokesman for the Iranian Mission in New York said he was aware of the allegations but had no immediate comment.

"Media stories about the London bombing suspects suggest they became radicalized because of the 'oppression of Muslims around the world.' While it's true that hundreds of millions of Muslims live in miserable circumstances, who's actually responsible for that oppression?
Fifty nations boast Muslim majorities and not one of them boasts economic prosperity and a functioning democracy... The true oppressor of Muslims is Islam itself, with teachings that destroy any chance of progress, peace or freedom."

U.S. worried by scandal rocking Colombia
Inquiry links state to drugs and gangs

BOGOTÁ: Just two weeks before a high-profile visit by President George W. Bush to Latin America, the United States' key partner on the continent is engulfed in an extraordinary scandal that threatens to undermine the credibility of U.S. alliances and policy priorities from Mexico to Argentina.
The widening investigation linking dozens of political allies of Colombia's president, Álvaro Uribe, to the country's rightist death squads and drug traffickers has started to erode support on Capitol Hill for Colombia, the biggest recipient of U.S. aid outside the Middle East and Afghanistan.

Iran, Syria invited to Iraq 'neighbors meeting'

Muslim cabbies tell airport they won't bend in alcohol dispute
PATRICK CONDON Associated Press Posted on Tue, Feb. 27, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - For Abdi Mohamed, it's not a question of whether he'll carry passengers with alcohol in his cab. The question is whether he'll get punished for refusing to do so.
"I am Muslim. I'm not going to carry alcohol," Mohamed, a driver for Bloomington Cab, told a Metropolitan Airports Commission panel that gathered public opinion Tuesday regarding proposed penalties for cabbies who refuse service to passengers carrying alcohol.
Dozens of cab drivers showed up for the hearing at a hotel near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Commissioners are charged with setting a new policy by May, when airport licenses for cab drivers are set to expire. Under the proposal, drivers who refuse service for any reason would have their license suspended for 30 days. A second refusal would mean a two-year revocation of the license.
Abdifatah Abdi, who said he is counseling cabdrivers on legal issues related to the controversy, warned commissioners that instituting the penalty would set off a long legal battle.
"This is a religious freedom issue, and it will not end here," Abdi said. "It will go to the courts, even the Supreme Court. The drivers will not relinquish their rights to be protected under American law."

Mexican Prez Slams US Border Wall
Mexico, Feb 27 (Prensa Latina)
At a meeting with a bilateral entrepreneurial organization Tuesday, Mexican President Felipe Calderon criticized the 745-mile, 1.3 billion dollar border wall the US is building to prevent illegal immigration from Mexico.
Calderon spoke to applause from US businesspeople, in front of US Ambassador to Mexico Antonio Garza, when he said it would be more useful to build a mile of road in Zacatecas, Michoacan and Jalisco than a wall on the northern border.
Calderon took advantage of Garza s presence at the American Chamber-Mexico meeting, which represents, promotes and develops trade and investment between the two countries, to send a message to President George W. Bush and the NAD Bank.
He demanded that the bank, which operates with Canadian and US funds, and the president reduce restrictions and boost cooperation.
Calderon declared himself in favor of turning Mexico into the fifth emerging nation with majority foreign investment, which is a path to development respecting democracy and public security.
Calderon's statements came at the opening of the Sixth National Convention of the American Chamber of Commerce, in response to demands for reform made by Simon Diaz Avalos, head of this oldest entrepreneurial organization outside the United States.

THE NORTH AMERICAN 'SOVIET' UNION
By Charlotte Iserbyt
February 27, 2007
NewsWithViews.com

There is one common thread running through all articles and speeches by elected officials, well-known writers, and commentators in opposition to the merging of the United States into a political and economic regional arrangement known as the North American Union. To my knowledge, not one of them has chosen to use the “C” word (communism) when warning Americans of the dangers of this unconstitutional merger about to be foisted upon us without proper hearings in Congress.
Excellent speeches and articles are being given and written warning us of all sorts of bad things related to this merger, including the fact that we will lose our sovereignty, but we are not being told that all these bad things are necessary for the full implementation of The North American Soviet Union (communistic/regional system). Isn’t the “C” word the one and only word which might shock Americans out of their state of conditioned apathy, thereby bringing about citizen activism which might result in killing this “regional” monster?

Mother, couple arrested in child trafficking case

By NICK BONHAMTHE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN
A Mexican mother and a Pueblo couple were arrested Tuesday on warrants for the alleged sale of a 5-month-old boy.
The 23-year-old mother, Nicole Uribe-Lopez, and the alleged buyers, Jose-Juan Lerma, 47, and his wife, Irene Lerma, 27, were booked into Pueblo County jail for trafficking in children, a Class III felony.
Each was being held Tuesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to Capt. John Barger of the Pueblo Police Department, the "healthy" infant was sold for $1,500, of which $500 went for a down payment on a car. The child is now in the custody of the Pueblo County Department of Social Services...
The Lermas met Uribe about two weeks ago through mutual acquaintances of Hines, who is listed in fair condition at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, where he is recovering from a suspected cocaine overdose, according to the affidavit.
Police responded to the hospital at 8:10 a.m. Monday after receiving calls about the purchase. Cpl. William Wells met with Hines' mother and sister, Jody Charter and Deanna Ramirez.
Later Monday, the Lermas, Uribe and her son arrived at the hospital, probably to visit Hines. The group was then taken to police headquarters and questioned.
Charter said Uribe had previously asked her to take the child, and said the child was sold last week in exchange for a car and money, the affidavit said.
Charter told police Uribe and Hines, who had had little money, were seen last week driving a car and wearing new clothing.
Uribe, Hines and the child moved in with the Lermas about a week ago after Ramirez kicked them out of her apartment. Ramirez was tired of Hines' drug use, the affidavit said.
The Lermas, who live in the 28,000 block of Iris Road, said arrangements were made with Uribe and Hines to adopt the child. The Lermas allegedly met with a local attorney and learned the adoption process would take too long. So last Thursday at Angelus Chapel Mortuaries, Uribe and Jose-Juan Lerma signed a document giving custody to the Lermas and had it notarized.
However, Detective Anderson pointed out inaccuracies in the document regarding names and titles. The Lermas admitted knowing about the mistakes.
Uribe is from Mexico. She said in the affidavit she paid a coyote (a human smuggler) $500 to bring her to the United States so she could work and support two other children in Mexico.
One reason Uribe said she wanted to give up her newborn was to better support her children in Mexico, but she still wanted to maintain contact with her American-born son.

Watch Video: Amnesty
Dan Stein, FAIR: Senator Kennedy, supposedly a champion of the working person in this country, is in lead with the greatest exploiters of cheap labor, groups working with the Chamber of Commerce and the immigration bar, unscrupulous lawyers who simply use immigration to make money. And somehow, he's working with them, and they're writing the bill. Wian: According to "The Washington Times," President Bush has pledged support for Senator Kennedy's so-called comprehensive immigration reform plan. He met with his counterpart from El Salvador, who's clearly hoping for an amnesty bill.

Mexican officials are in Washington tonight to lobby for the Security and Prosperity Partnership, what some call the Northern American Union. This plan is backed by government and corporate elites, with no input from Congress or voters. Labor unions say they, too, have been left in the dark, even though the partnership, much like the North American Free Trade Agreement, will have a direct impact on American jobs and wages. Supporters of the plan want to do away with national regulations, a move that could threaten U.S. sovereignty. Jack Martin of the Federation for American Immigration Reform said: "Academics who have studied this indicate that it isn't a win-win situation for everybody. And, in fact, the United States stands to lose in many ways." Critics say the Security and Prosperity Partnership may be a bonanza for big business, but it will leave the American worker less secure and less prosperous.
[Our take: The government of Mexico is lobbying for a North American Union and illegal alien advocates are pressing for open borders and amnesty. Against this backdrop big corporations continue to send jobs overseas, yet demand more foreign workers be allowed to enter the U.S. at lower wages. Meanwhile, on Capitol Hill millionaires like Senator Edward Kennedy -- who hides his oil wealth from taxes, yes he owns an oil company -- is expending great energy to reshape our country in the image of a thoroughly corrupt Mexico. Too many Americans are sitting on the sidelines in this crisis. If Bush and Kennedy get their way, there is no turning back. Most Americans will be left scratching their heads, wondering how millionaire politicians, big corporations and illegal aliens colluded in taking away our government. When that day comes, we will have lost the power to do anything about it.]

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to begin hearings on so-called comprehensive immigration reform, a plan critics say amounts to amnesty for illegal aliens. All week, demonstrators are gathering outside San Francisco's immigration office, demanding unconditional amnesty for the estimated 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States. And they want immigration authorities to stop conducting workplace raids targeting fugitive illegal aliens. A call for the effective end of immigration law enforcement is among the more extreme measures being proposed by amnesty advocates now lobbying Congress. According to Dan Stein of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, "Senator Kennedy, supposedly a champion of the working person in this country, is in league with the greatest exploiters of cheap labor, groups working with the Chamber of Commerce and the immigration bar, unscrupulous lawyers who simply use immigration to make money. And somehow, he's working with them, and they're writing the bill."

The Washington Times: Senate Illegals Bill Near Complete
Senators and lobbyists are putting the final touches on a comprehensive immigration-reform bill that includes an easier citizenship path for illegal aliens and weaker enforcement provisions than were in the highly criticized legislation that the Senate approved last year. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who ardently supports citizenship rights for illegals, will introduce the bill as early as next week, according to Senate sources knowledgeable about the negotiations. If the Senate Judiciary Committee can make quick work of the bill, it could be ready for floor action in April. Mr. Kennedy drafted this year's bill with help from Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, and outside lobbyists. Mr. McCain and the outside groups share Mr. Kennedy's support for increased immigration and leniency for illegals already in the country. Among the most active participants have been the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition (EWIC) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Both groups support giving current illegals a path to citizenship and increasing the flow of foreign workers into the country.

Theft of radioactive device in Canada cause for concern

Sometime on or shortly before Tuesday, February 20, 2007, a portable radioactive nucleodensimeter was stolen from a construction site in Vaudreuil-Dorion, outside of Montreal. Weighing about 75 pounds, the specialized device is clearly labeled with radioactive warning stickers and contains radioactive material used to take soil samples and measure ground water. The radioactive substance inside, however, can be potentially dangerous if improperly exposed or used for nefarious purposes.
This is the second time a nucleodensimeter has been stolen from the greater Montreal area. On September 23, 2002, the same type of device was stolen from an engineer's truck while the vehicle was parked at his residence in Laval, Canada, just outside of Montreal. Based on inquiries to police officials by the Northeast Intelligence Network, that device was never recovered.

DUBAI - Bottom slapper is jailed

UAE, Wednesday February 28, 2007

A British traveller who slapped an airport employee on the bottom at Dubai International Airport has been sentenced to three months in prison.
The 30-year-old repeated the offence in front of police officers when they were called to the scene and made crude homosexual advances to his victim.
At the Court of First Instance the married Briton, identified as AJ, confessed and apologised for the offences saying: "I just want to say I’m sorry, it was a mistake. I am ashamed and embarrassed. I’m asking for mercy. I miss my wife and daughter and I just want to see them." The Briton was convicted of molestation and also fined dhs3,000 for illegally consuming alcohol following the incident on December 1.
The court heard that after passing through an X-ray machine, AJ told the 21-year-old male airport employee: "I was married to someone who looks like you" and then slapped his bottom. AJ then started telling the man that he liked to have sex with men before insulting him, throwing money at him and again slapping his bottom.
The offences were repeated at a Dubai police station following his arrest.
The defendant was not present in court when the verdict was passed, but was arrested by police officers and told of his sentence when he arrived for the hearing.
He then made his impassioned plea to the court.

Protests after 14 die at festival
From correspondents in Lahore
February 27, 2007 04:33am
Article from: Agence France-Presse

ISLAMIC groups staged protests overnight after 14 people, including a child, were killed and 200 injured during an annual kite flying festival in central Pakistan.
The seven-year-old boy died when an illegal kite string coated in broken glass slashed his throat during the Basant festival near Lahore, local police officer Ahmed Hasan said.
Stray bullets fired in the air killed four people, six kite flyers fell to their deaths from rooftops and a young man died in a brawl, Mr Hasan said.
Another two men were electrocuted after the metal rods they were using to catch stray kites caught on power lines, officials in Lahore said.
Most of the wounded had head injuries caused by falling from rooftops, the officials said.
Lahore police chief Malik Iqbal said nearly 600 people were arrested for firing guns in the air or using banned kite strings.
Thousands of revellers traditionally take part in "kite battles" to mark Basant, which heralds the start of spring in central Punjab province, while socialites hold wild parties in major cities.
But the yearly death toll prompted the Pakistan Supreme Court to ban the festival in 2006, while radical parties say the celebrations - especially the kite-flying - are un-Islamic.
"We have held countrywide rallies to condemn the practice of kite-flying and the loss of innocent lives because of it," said Shahid Shamsi, a spokesman for the Muttahida-Majlis-e-Amal, Pakistan's main alliance of Islamic parties.
Rallies were held in the capital Islamabad, Lahore and all major urban centers in Punjab, he said.

Frankly, I don't believe it. There is no way human beings can turn a kite-flying festival into such a bloody travesty!
I think the kite-flying festival is just a good time to pick to push someone off a roof if you want to.

US Muslims suing employers on religious grounds
By Khalid Hasan
Daily Times Pakistan
In Minnesota, the number of Muslims filing federal complaints about being targeted at work because of their faith climbed from four a decade ago to 66 last year. Nationally, the number has more than doubled since the mid-1990s. Federal officials point to a rising number of Muslims in the country and a post-September 11 backlash as reasons for the increase.
According to the press report, since October, 40 Muslims in Minnesota have filed three federal lawsuits alleging their employers discriminated based on faith or didn’t accommodate their faith. At the same time, some Muslim cab drivers are facing potential penalties at Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport for refusing to carry passengers with dogs or alcohol, which some Muslims say violates their faith.

Case against husband for selling wife’s kidney
MULTAN: The wife of a farmer from Bahawalpur has registered a case against her husband, accusing him of selling her kidney without her consent to purchase a tractor, police said on Monday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bahawlapur Arif Nawaz said that police had registered a case against farmer Shakeel Ahmed following the written complaint of his wife, Safia, "in the light of a medical report indicating that (her) husband had unlawfully sold one of her kidneys".
Safia moved an application to the Noshera Jadeed station house officer (SHO), stating that her husband, whom she married in 2004, had beaten her when she was three-months' pregnant, causing her to miscarry. She said that her husband then took her to Bahawal Victoria Hospital, on the pretext of seeking medical treatment.
She accused doctors of removing one of her kidneys during a surgical procedure, claiming that they had acted in collusion with her husband and had failed to secure her consent before removing the organ. Safia said that she only came to know about her ordeal when she later contracted a urinary tract infection and sought medical treatment. She also pointed out that that her husband then confessed what had happened, admitting that he had sold her kidney and used the money from the transaction to buy a tractor. Noshera Jadeed police said that they had registered a case against Ahmed, adding that investigations into the alleged crime were still continuing. ppi

Islam is Responsible Says Former Sultan Ali El-Shariff, Now in So. California
"Today Islam is responsible for almost all of the human sufferings from war, persecution, and poverty, particularly in the country of Sudan."

MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 26 /
Christian Newswire/

"Since the 1983 start of the civil war in the southern Sudan more than 4 million people have been displaced, and an estimated over 2 million have been killed because Islam has declared the Holy War (Jihad) (Qur'an 9:5) against the non-Muslim black indigenous people. Islam is responsible for more than 100,000 children either killed or sold as slaves in Muslim homes. Islam is responsible for raping and kidnapping more than 50,000 women during the war (Qur'an 4:3). Islam is responsible for cutting hands and feet of hundreds of innocent people because Islamic laws were applied; bringing shame and infirmity to many families for the rest of their lives. Islam is responsible of abusing millions of women every day through beating, atrocious treatment and emotional deprivation because of the Islamic teaching (Qur'an 4:34).
"It is a shame for any African American to embrace Islam which makes them a participant in these disgraceful acts. It is a shame to embrace Islam to enforce the practice of slavery, abuse of women and children and to humiliate human kind through persecution, poverty and destruction. Unfortunately, Islam always has two faces. The Islamic missionaries always present the peaceful, respectful and the nice face of Islam. The fact is, there is a real violent face of Islam that Muslims in North America try to hide. It is a shame for anyone who embraces Islam without thinking, asking questions or reading about the true face of Islam. Islam is responsible today for the destruction of lives and cultures. Sudan is a vivid example. Why would you want to be a Muslim and participate in their wicked ways?"

At the same time we have laws that prohibit us from expressing our fears about the future — if they concern the consequences of immigration and a hostile foreign religion.
Is it illegal to learn from history?
We now have about 425,000 immigrants and descendants of immigrants in this country. About 300,000 of these are from Muslim countries. This number has doubled in the last ten to eleven years. If this goes on the Danes will be a minority in about twenty-five years. But I am not allowed to express my fear about this without risking prosecution. I must be careful with my mouth. The worst thing is that it is usually other Danes who are the most active enforcers of these rules.
In my daily work I meet many people, both young and old, who are very worried and frightened. Especially the old people, who experienced World War Two.
They are all frightened of the future.
Especially the future of their children and grandchildren. And they are happy to be old, so they don’t have to live to see the future society of conflict and confrontation between cultures. They have seen what happened in Yugoslavia and are afraid of civil war in this country. It is very painful to hear. When the war was over, the old people say, the Germans went home. This time its different. And they mention incidents with which were unfamiliar in this country only twenty years ago.

In the past it was not a problem to be buried next to a Dane in the cemetery.
We do not understand why the freedoms we were given in our Constitution in 1849 are now being used against us, to advance an "ism", one that is not itself tolerant towards different believers or thinkers.
Is it wrong to preserve the society and the values we have built?
Should we accept a foreign culture’s demands on us, without being allowed to speak against it?

Are we not allowed to say openly why they are here?
Their leaders in their home countries are not hiding it.
And should we accept the fact that it falls on us to pay for the whole thing?
Can we hope to be able to see once again a society built on harmony and safety?

by Aussie Dave at 08:45PM (IST) on February 26, 2007
Two 18-year-old palestinians have brutually murdered a 42 year-old father of three - while he meditated in prayer.
Erez was found brutally stabbed to death just several hundred yards from the Bat Ayin community.
It is believed that arab terrorists ambushed Mr. Levanon as he was engaged in his nightly prayer meditation in the forest adjacent to the town. At approximately 6:00 p.m. Sunday, the victim was reported missing by a friend who was waiting to travel with him to Tel Aviv.
Security forces later found the body in a wood just outside the gate of his hometown of Bat Ayin. He was pronounced dead at the scene, having been stabbed and possibly attacked with an axe. The victim’s car was stolen by the killers and used in their flight from the scene of the attack.

European Islam expert says some parts of Sharia applicable in Europe
Brussels, Feb 25, IRNA
EU-Islamic Sharia
Sharia laws have a broad space to follow and certainly parts of Sharia are applicable in Europe since it concerns religious norms like praying, fasting, building of mosques, according to Professor Dr. Matthias Rohe, a judge at the court of appeals in the German city of Nuremberg and an expert on Islamic law.
In an interview with IRNA, Rohe said even some legal aspects of Sharia are applicable in Europe.
He noted that in two countries in Europe, Bulgaria and Thrace in Greece, Muslims are living under Sharia law.
The freedom of religion is granted in all European societies, said Rohe who was in Brussels to take part in a conference on multiculturalism.

Police: Depressed student said he had bomb, anthrax
POSTED: 12:04 p.m. EST, February 27, 2007
ROLLA, Missouri (AP) -- Nearly two dozen people were being decontaminated Tuesday after a white, powdery substance was found on a student who claimed to have a bomb and threatened "terrorist-type" actions at the University of Missouri-Rolla, officials said.
The man, described as a graduate student depressed about his grades, also claimed to have anthrax, according to police. School officials said "possible bomb materials" were found when he was taken into custody.
Twenty-three people were sent through a decontamination process Tuesday morning outside the university's civil engineering building, where a police standoff with the student had started around 2:30 a.m.
Acting Police Chief Mark Kearse said that when police arrived the student was holding a knife and that he held up a bag and said: "This is a bomb." He also claimed to have anthrax.
Police used a stun gun to subdue him and found a note in which the student threatened to destroy the building, Kearse said.
The man's identity and nationality were not released, though school spokesman Lance Feyh said he was an international student.

What Are Islam's Weak Points?

Tuesday, December 20, 2005
How do we defeat Islam? What are Islam's weak points, and what are ours?

Ali Sina from Faith Freedom International wants to confront Islam by education. I support and applaud his efforts, but I don't think they will solve all the problems. Quite a few hardcore Islamists have more than average education, for instance. Educating non-Muslims about Islam the way FFI and Jihad Watch are doing is thus probably more important than educating Muslims. Islam has rational components. It is an excellent warrior creed (or at least used to be) and is great as an excuse for plundering the wealth of others. But first and foremost, it is an irrational cult based on fear.
The Judeo-Christian, Western culture is based on guilt, and Muslims exploit this by playing on our guilt complex. The Arab-Islamic culture is based on shame.
It should be done by giving Islam its proper name: Slavery and apartheid.
Islam is institutionalised slavery, and the Jihad's main purpose is to garner slaves, both men and women, from the lands of the Free.

The very liberals who justify every form of art, expression and discussion -- even when it undermines the very foundations of our beliefs and society -- suddenly intone the need for self-censorship if it offends the Arab street or Moslem mob. And does it not seem that any truthful, non-flattering observation of current Islam is somehow parlayed by the mob as a direct assault on the Islamic god himself, thereby justifying immediate rampaging, torching and killing? This inverted double standard against itself by Western liberals is not only a sociological historic first but bespeaks the utter fear now gripping those in denial. It is they, liberals, who are denying the true nature of current Islamism. But not all Muslims are radicals... Absolutely true. But neither were all Germans Nazis. What counts are not those who are passive and uninvolved but those in the driver’s seat, those who can intimidate entire populations. The silence of virtually all of Islam’s world wide population, including America’s, regarding these barbaric outbursts and beheadings, demonstrates how the Islamic masses are acquiescing to the jihadists -- or worse.

This monumentally corrupt country with a national police force that is legendary in its corruption and brutality balks at extradition if international human rights issues are involved. Gomez-Garcia (who was in the U.S. illegally) was extradited only after Colorado prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty.

2 taken into custody in border-area gunfire
By Aaron Mackey
arizona daily star

Tucson, Arizona Published: 02.26.2007
A person injured Saturday when a Border Patrol agent fired at an oncoming vehicle was treated at a hospital and released.
That person and a passenger who was in the vehicle at the time remain in custody on unspecified charges.
The agency provided few details Sunday but gave the following account:
Agents tried to stop a Lincoln Navigator driving north on Arizona 286 about 10 miles north of the Sasabe port of entry, said Jesus Rodriguez, a Border Patrol spokesman.
An agent got out of his vehicle and approached the sport utility vehicle, which appeared to have stopped.
The SUV quickly turned around around and came toward the agent, who fired his gun because he felt threatened. The Navigator didn't strike the agent, and was driven away. It was later stopped in Sasabe, Rodriguez said.
Agents arrested two individuals, one of whom suffered minor injuries, Rodriguez said.
The genders of the people in the SUV weren't available Sunday. Rodriguez also didn't know whether the injured person suffered a gunshot wound.
That individual was taken to a hospital to be treated, then released and taken into custody.
Someone inside the Navigator might have fired at the agent before he used his weapon, though investigators don't know for sure, Rod-riguez said.
Agents found 1,300 pounds of drugs in the SUV, which were reported stolen in Mesa, Rodriguez said.
The agent's name was not released Sunday. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of the shooting, which is standard agency practice.

The Town the Law Forgot
By Jeffrey Anderson
Wednesday, February 21, 2007 - 12:00 pm

Cudahy is a strange little city; some say a scary one.

In 2003, city leaders fired the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department — which had policed Cudahy for 14 years, focusing on gang and drug crime — in favor of a nearby municipal police force that recently erupted over public allegations of police brutality and kickbacks to police and city officials from a towing company.
In Cudahy, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has seized almost 20 times more cocaine over the past five years than in Bell, a bordering city of similar size, and the city suffers more crime per capita than small towns nearby.
It’s a city with 200 active gang members, where shootings are common though homicide rare — that is, until 11 killings occurred in the wake of the sheriff’s departure in 2003.
Cudahy leaders seem satisfied.
Consider the tone-deaf reaction of Cudahy City Manager George Perez in early February, after the news broke on KNBC Channel 4 and in La Opinión, a Spanish-language daily, that the city of Maywood, currently under a $2-million-a-year contract to police Cudahy, was facing a state takeover because the police department — the Maywood-Cudahy Police Department — is so out of control. “Police problems in Maywood have nothing to do with us,” said Perez. “Our city council is happy, and our citizens are too.”
Mexican-style political boss: City Manager George Perez Cudahy resembles a Mexican border town more than it does a Los Angeles suburb. Entrenched gangs and Mexican drug trafficking have trapped working-class legal and illegal immigrants in a cycle of violence and fear, in a city where less than a quarter of the 28,000 residents are eligible to vote. An uneducated city council, a deeply troubled police force imported from Maywood two towns over, and the raw power of the 18th Street Gang — a complex criminal organization with a knack for setting up business fronts and obscuring underground drug activity — make Cudahy residents seem like hostages in their own city.
Since his revolving-door ascent from the council to city manager in 2000, Perez’s salary has risen by $30,000 — more than most residents make in a year — to $120,000. Meanwhile, the city’s problems remain dire: poverty, density, gangs and drugs...
