The official witnesses to Saddam Hussein's impending execution gathered Friday in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone in final preparation for his hanging, as state television broadcast footage of his regime's atrocities.
With U.S. forces on high alert for a surge in violence, the Iraqi government readied all the necessary documents, including a "red card" - an execution order introduced during Saddam's dictatorship. An adviser to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saddam would be executed before 6 a.m. Saturday, or 10 p.m. Friday EST. Also to be hanged at that time were Saddam's half-brother Barzan Ibrahim and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the former chief justice of the Revolutionary Court, the adviser said.
"Saddam will be handed over shortly before the execution," the official said.
Al-Nueimi said U.S. authorities were maintaining physical custody of Saddam to prevent him from being humiliated before his execution. He said the Americans also want to prevent the mutilation of his corpse, as has happened to other deposed Iraqi leaders.
"The Americans want him to be hanged respectfully," al-Nueimi said. If Saddam is humiliated publicly or his corpse ill-treated "that could cause an uprising and the Americans would be blamed," he said.

Muslim World League wants lawsuits for "abuse of Islam and the Prophet"
JEDDAH, 28 December 2006 — A two-day conference organized by the Makkah-based Muslim World League yesterday called for a consultative commission in order to take legal action against those who abuse Islam and its Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islamic sanctities, at local and international courts of justice, the Saudi Press Agency said.
The conference titled “In Defense of the Prophet” called upon Islamic countries and governments to stand united to defend the Islamic faith and its Prophet. I called 2006 "The Year of Speaking Dangerously," and that was before anyone likely imagined seeing "Behead Those Who Insult Islam" placards on jihadist display outside the Danish Embassy in London.

What kind of year will 2007 be?

What I fear most is that it will turn out to be "The Year of Shutting Up." As in: Why speak dangerously when you can simply not speak at all?

Rep. Virgil Goode, Virginia Republican, has become both the lone standard-bearer of free speech about Islam and the favorite whipping boy of the PC elites. In a letter to constituents about the decision of Rep.-elect Keith Ellison, Minnesota Democrat, to use a Koran at his swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Goode expressed what I take to be his recognition that the laws of Islam — which prohibit religious freedom, freedom of speech and conscience, equality before the law and women's rights — do not augment but rather contravene the founding principles of the United States.

He also wrote: "I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America."

It's difficult to argue with Mr. Goode's logic. Indeed, the test case of the age — Europe — demonstrates that Islamic immigration brings Islamic law, which is demonstrably at odds with American values and beliefs. Forgoing debate, however, Mr. Goode's critics have resorted to name-calling and platitudes about "tolerance," failing utterly to notice the gross intolerance of the Islamic tradition. Worst of all, their tactics seem designed to shut up Mr. Goode, and anyone else who might follow his bold example.

Will they?
It's the question of 2007.

(CBS) LOS ANGELES Things were back to normal Monday at a downtown Metro train station that had been closed because a man intentionally spilled mercury on the platform, a sheriff's sergeant said.

A security camera recorded a man pouring about two ounces of the potentially lethal metal out of a container about 6:50 a.m. Saturday at the Metro Red Line Pershing Square Station at 500 S. Hill St., said Sgt. Loy Luna of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Sheriff's Department.

Because the motive was unknown, the incident was being investigated as a crime and not as a potential act of terrorism on mass transportation, Holland said.

Authorities believe the suspect merely meant to inconvenience people, he said.

The suspect was described as a white or Middle Eastern man, 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, Luna said.He was wearing a brown jacket, he said.

Four killed in three attacks by suspected Muslim rebels in southern Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand: Two teachers were shot and burned to death in Thailand's restive south Friday by suspected Muslim insurgents, while a government worker and a grocery store owner were killed in other attacks, police said.
School headmaster Chamnong Chupatpong and Mano Sonkaew were driving a pickup truck on their way to Ban Baedo school in Yala province when they were shot, dragged out of the vehicle and burned to death, according to a witness, Lt. Tatsapol Suwannabul said.
Their bodies were found on a roadside, the Yala-based police officer said, adding that details of the attack were being investigated.
The attackers had spread nails across roads in the area before the attack to distract police, Tatsapol said.
In the second incident, a government-hired village defense volunteer, Komhem Ya-kae, was ambushed and shot to death by at least three drive-by shooters while he was riding a motorcycle home in Narathiwat province, police said.
The fourth person, Tamanoon Pramotpaibul, 50, was shot and killed at his store in Pattani province by two suspected insurgents, police said.
Drive-by shootings and bombings occur almost daily in Thailand's three southernmost Muslim-majority provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, where an Islamic insurgency that flared in January 2004 has killed more than 1,900 people.
Suspected insurgents target people regarded as collaborators with the government as well as soldiers and police. More than 50 Buddhist and Muslim teachers, viewed as symbols of government authority, have also been killed.
Despite offers of peace and reconciliation by the country's military-backed government, violence has increased in recent months.

A citizens' group in Berlin turned out this week for a candlelight vigil to protest plans for a new mosque in their neighborhood. It will be the first to be built in the former East Berlin, where almost no Muslims live -- but no one can quite explain why it shouldn't be there.
A member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Berlin stands in front of a sign that reads, "There is no God but Allah." The community has just won approval for a new mosque in an eastern district of the German capital.
At the end of a rundown suburban street lined with bare trees and flaking apartment facades, a small group of people hold candles or colored Glo-sticks. A few hold signs -- "Democracy yes! Caliphate no!" -- and some carry German flags.
"The mosque is supposed to go up right here," says Günter Bronner, a blustery white-haired man with glasses pushed up on his forehead who's lived in the neighborhood for 42 years. He points to a drab piece of land at the end of the street where a defunct sauerkraut factory stands. "They want to have a minaret with a muezzin who gives the call to prayer five times a day. Can you imagine? Five times a day over our rooftops."

Houston SPCA helps cockfighting raid -->A centuries-old blood sport is bustling in Texas, featuring weekend fights that include gambling, concession stands and even paid parking.
Dozens of cockfighting operations have sprung up in Harris County in recent years to support the illegal trade and they do business with little interference, animal-rights activists say.
Frustrated authorities say they're alarmed by the trend, but can't do much because local and state laws are weak and full of loopholes.
"I'm serious when I say cockfighting is an epidemic not only in Houston, but all over Texas," said Sgt. Mark Timmers, a Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable who has seen a rise in breeding farms for roosters used in cockfighting.

Some Latinos, he said, admire the macho image of the outlaw cockfighter like a winning boxer.
"People want to be a champion ... we look up to the guy with the pair of ostrich boots and alligator belt; the guy whose rooster just won a hundred Gs on a fight," Chingo said.
Animal-rights activists contend the life of a fighting rooster is far from the cultural romanticism painted by Chingo.
Roosters are shorn of their combs and wattles, fitted with razor blades or ice picks and often injected with steroids or blood-clotting drugs before being forced to fight to the death.
"It's not a quaint pastime; it's a criminal cruel industry," said Ann Chynoweth of the Humane Society of the United States in Washington, D.C.

Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, sentenced to death for his role in 148 killings in 1982, will have his sentence carried out by Sunday, NBC News reported Thursday. According to a U.S. military officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, Saddam will be hanged before the start of the Eid religious holiday, which begins at sundown Saturday.
The hanging could take place as early as FridayNBC’s Richard Engel reported.
The U.S. military received a formal request from the Iraqi government to transfer Saddam to Iraqi authorities, NBC reported on Thursday, which is one of the final steps required before his execution. His sentence, handed down last month, ordered that he be hanged within 30 days. .

Long Beach gunman slain in Santa Ana shootout

A man killed in a shopping plaza shootout with Santa Ana police late Wednesday afternoon was the suspect wanted in last week's critical wounding of two Long Beach officers, authorities said today.

The man was identified as Oscar Gabriel Gallegos, 33, who has a history of arrests for firearms violations, felony drug possession, assault and public intoxication, officials said at an afternoon news conference held by Long Beach police officials and Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley.

Gallegos was the only suspect in connection with the Friday afternoon shooting of Officers Abe Yap, 35, a nine-year veteran of the department, and Roy Wade Jr., 39, who had graduated from the police academy three weeks before the attack. The two officers remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Drunk Driver of Fatal Crash Believed to be an Illegal Immigrant

There are still a lot of questions about the suspected drunk driver who killed a woman and two of her children while driving under the influence

on Christmas Eve.
Carlos Prieto is in the Salt Lake County Jail. In the past couple of hours we've learned that he's been in Utah at least a couple of years and that he may be in the country illegally.
Prieto was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion on vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, and driving without a license. Prosecutors are still screening the case, and formal charges are expected tomorrow morning.
Police arrested Prieto on Christmas Eve morning, when he ran a red light at the intersection of 5400 South and 700 East in Murray, and broadsided a car carrying the Ceran family. Cheryl Ceran, her son, Ian, and daughter, Julianna, died. Gary Ceran and two other children survived.

The January 2005 arrest of Noel Exinia and Cesario Nunez appeared to be just another Drug Enforcement Administration bust on the border, until court documents in the case are examined more closely.
A few days before their arrest on federal cocaine trafficking charges, Exinia and Nunez moved more than a quarter-ton of cocaine from Mexico through the Rio Grande Valley and on to New York City, the men told officials.
Nuñez, 33, pleaded guilty to a drug conspiracy charge in September. His sentencing is set for Thursday.
Exinia, 35, eventually pleaded guilty to the same charge. His sentencing is expected in March.
Court documents filed in Exinia's case make frequent references to his position in the notorious Gulf Cartel. The paperwork also contains details of a December 2004 incident in which he tried to secure transportation for 20 Middle Eastern "terrorists" waiting to enter the United States from Monterrey, Chiapas and Puebla in Mexico.
Recorded telephone conversations authorized under the U.S. Patriot Act and a court order captured the La Feria truck driver referring to the 20 men as "gente de Osama" or "Osama's people."
During a Jan. 5, 2005, telephone conversation, Exinia described the men as "Iraqis," ages 25 to 33, who were willing to pay $8,000 for transportation past Border Patrol checkpoints in South Texas and into the U.S. interior.
Exinia mentioned that eight of the men were coming to Progreso, northwest of Brownsville. He said they were "dangerous" and "really bad people." They carried guns and made the smuggler that was helping them "afraid."
Court records show that Exinia tried to employ a pilot-- who turned out to be a confidential government source-- to fly the men from the Valley to the northeastern United States.

Mexican Police Detain 4 Iraqis in Border City of Tijuana

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Federal police and immigration agents detained four Iraqi citizens in the border city of Tijuana on suspected immigration violations, after the Iraqis failed to present proper visas.
Police told the government news agency Notimex that the Iraqis, including a child, were found Saturday at a hotel in Tijuana, across the border from San Diego. All four were taken to an immigration detention center for possible deportation.
It was not immediately clear whether the Iraqis were linked to Chaldean Christians, who have a sizable community in Southern California and frequently try to enter the United States through Mexico, claiming they face persecution in Iraq.

Baja California agents and Mexican federal immigration officers found a group of four Friday night at a Tijuana hotel.

In addition, two groups of about two or three Iraqis turned themselves in earlier this week to U.S. inspectors at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry, asking for political asylum.

The prospect of expanded trade in Mexican states controlled by some of the country's most dangerous cartel leaders could pose serious national security challenges for the United States, an internal DEA report obtained by the Daily Bulletin explains.
The report, which has never been released, examines how already strained federal law enforcement agencies monitoring border security and narcotics will be challenged by not only Mexican and South and Central American drug trafficking organizations, but also by Asian cartels.
With slim resources to monitor cargo and inadequate border security measures in place, it will be next to impossible for U.S. agencies to stem the tide of contraband expected to enter the country from Mexico, the DEA report warns. Agencies will be hard-pressed to monitor the billions of dollars in contraband expected to enter the nation if U.S. officials don't take heed.
"Contraband can be anything from narcotics, pirated videos, humans or weapons of mass destruction,'' said David Monnette, spokesman for the DEA in El Paso, Texas. "These drug-trafficking organizations know that we are spread thin, and many times they use legitimate trade routes to move their contraband into the United States. This report explains the possible dangers of not addressing these issues.''
Trade routeA joint venture of Texas and the Mexican government, La Entrada al Pacífico (Gateway to the Pacific) which also is the title of the DEA report is meant to get more goods from Asia north into the United States.
The plan which involves redirecting more than half of East Coast-bound Asian cargo from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles to Mexico will stretch the power of Mexican cartels while aligning them with Asian drug-trafficking organizations, according to the DEA report. That report focuses on the Mexican port of Topolobampo, Sinaloa, on Mexico's southwestern coast.

Plan B: Syria's forgotten - but dangerous - nuclear program

WASHINGTON - The Iraq Survey Group is calling for open negotiations with Syria, but new reports show that Damascus is up to no good. Indeed, while world attention is rightly focused on the nuclear capabilities of Iran and North Korea, Syria has been quietly - but quickly - advancing its own secret nuclear program.
2003: Russian Foreign Ministry inadvertently revealed that a Russian-Syrian agreement for the delivery of a nuclear power plant in an undisclosed Syrian location had been signed.
2004: Syrian President Bashar Assad made a point to say that Syria would not dispose of its WMD program until Israel did the same.

March 2004: German magazine Der Spiegel revealed in that Swedish authorities and the CIA were investigating a very likely Syrian nuclear program secretly developed in Homs in the northern part of the country.

July 2004: Investigators looking into the Pakistani nuclear network of A.Q. Khan pointed out that Syria may have procured centrifuges capable of enriching uranium to produce a bomb.
May 2006: This fact was confirmed in in a declassified report to the U.S. Congress on the acquisition of technology relating to weapons of mass destruction. Before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Syria also got help from Saddam Hussein’s regime.

Syria’s economy was very dependent on Iraq’s trade, especially oil-smuggling revenues. Sunday Telegraph journalist Con Coughlin affirmed in a September 2004 article that 12 Iraqi nuclear scientists — who were transferred to Syria and given new identities before the war — were on their way to Iran to assist their counterparts there in building a nuclear weapon. “The results of the research would then be shared with Syria,” Coughlin added.
But what really broke the camel’s back was a recent report from the well-informed Kuwaiti daily newspaper Al Seyassah. It quoted European intelligence sources as saying that “Syria has an advanced nuclear program” in a secret site located in the province of Al Hassaka, close to the Turkish and Iraqi borders. British sources quoted by the paper believe that “it is President Assad’s brother, Colonel Maher Assad and his cousin Rami Makhlouf, who supervise the program.”
This nuclear weapons program is based on material that Saddam Hussein’s two sons shipped to Syria before — and during — the U.S. war against Iraq. According to the Kuwaiti newspaper, this explains why international investigative teams found no proof of Hussein’s nuclear program.

All these criticisms share a common core assumption: that Goode has no reason to be concerned about Ellison, the Qur’an, or Muslims, and that any suspicion he does have is simply evidence of his bigotry and ignorance...

Ellison (spoke) at a convention hosted by the Muslim American Society and the Islamic Circle of North America. According to a 2004 Chicago Tribune article, “A rare look at secretive Brotherhood in America,” the Muslim American Society was founded in 1993 as the United States arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian based terror group that has spawned both Hamas and Al-Qaeda. MAS members now maintain that the group has no ties to the Brotherhood, but there are indications that many in the group want to see the U.S. Constitution replaced by Islamic law.

“We may all feel emotionally attached to the goal of an Islamic state” in America, said a speaker at a 2002 MAS conference, but “we mustn’t cross hurdles we can’t jump yet.”

The Muslim American Society’s chapter for Ellison’s home state of Minnesota hosts a website that offers in an “Online Library” texts by the jihad theorists Syed Abul Ala Maududi and Sayyid Qutb. Qutb in his jihad manifesto Milestones asserts that “Islam is the way of life ordained by God for all mankind, and this way establishes the Lordship of God alone -- that is, the sovereignty of God – and orders practical life in all its daily details. Jihaad in Islam is simply a name for striving to make this system of life dominant in the world.” Likewise, according to terror expert Steven Emerson, the Islamic Circle of North America “is a Jamad Islamia group, which is on record as calling for jihad in the United States, to promote the notion of an Islamic world. ICNA also published something very recently saying that they are against suicide bombings, except when it comes to killing Israelis.”

Is it reasonable to ask Ellison if he shares such views?

When he speaks at a conference sponsored by such organizations, is it simply bigotry to ask him if he holds views they are on record as having?

When Muslim leaders around the globe have spoken about the necessity to impose Islamic law upon the world, is it sheer nativism to ask Ellison and American Muslims if they hold the same views?

Look at the top-priority campaigns of the nation's big environmental groups and you'll find endangered animals, pollution and global warming.
What's largely missing are high-profile, domestic initiatives that tackle what many conservationists agree is a chief source of these and other challenges: U.S. population growth.
The environmental establishment has mostly abandoned talking about the nation's growing populace, particularly as it relates to immigration. The topic is dogged by internal squabbles, divisive politics and a desire to avoid ethnic discrimination.
One result is that ecological factors are rarely mentioned in the current effort to establish a new immigration policy. The debate mostly centers on economics and national security.
“People have been avoiding it like the plague,” said U.S. Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Carlsbad, a hawk on illegal-immigration issues.
“(Environmentalists) will sidestep major challenges to what their stated goal is because it may end up stepping on political friends' toes,” he said. “They have credibility problems when they are willing to look the other way.”

How the West Could Lose

After defeating fascists and communists, can the West now defeat the Islamists?

On the face of it, its military preponderance makes victory seem inevitable. Even if Tehran acquires a nuclear weapon, Islamists have nothing like the military machine the Axis deployed in World War II, nor the Soviet Union during the cold war.

What do the Islamists have to compare with the Wehrmacht or the Red Army? The SS or Spetznaz? The Gestapo or the KGB? Or, for that matter, to Auschwitz or the gulag?

Yet, more than a few analysts, including myself, worry that it's not so simple. Islamists (defined as persons who demand to live by the sacred law of Islam, the Sharia) might in fact do better than the earlier totalitarians.

They could even win.

That's because, however strong the Western hardware, its software contains some potentially fatal bugs. Three of them – pacifism, self-hatred, complacency – deserve attention.

The Lessons of 2006

The primary lesson I take away from 2006 is that we often do not believe what we see in front of us, to our own detriment and danger.
The most obvious example is the Islamist triumph in Somalia, begun in the middle of the year, yet receiving virtually no serious policy attention until very recently. It is hard to fathom why a self-proclaimed Islamist-Salafist movement, clear it is aims, could be viewed as a secondary concern. While the bedrock support for the movements is clan-based and the Islamic Courts enjoy some popular support for restoring law and order, there appears to have been little creative thinking as to how to counter-balance the more radical elements.
Now we face a series of bad options. Ethiopia may drive the Islamist groups out of Mogadishu, but Somalia is already viewed by much of the Islamist community as another attempt to establish the beginnings of the Caliphate. Foreign fighters, along with the Somalis, will likely prolong the fight through guerrilla warfare long into the future. It sets up a clear (in the jihadi mind, at least) conflict between Christian/Jewish Crusaders and Islam, a huge drawing card for the Islamist movement.

This means the whole Horn of Africa is now in danger of a spreading war that can, in the end, only help those who profit from chaos and unaccountability.

Norway: "Pig" replaced with "fox" in kindergarten fairy tales

Document.no, Norway's largest independent weblog, reports that in Norwegian kindergartens, pigs in traditional fairy tales are now quietly being replaced with other animals. A person who visits kindergartens to read fairy tales experienced that in stories by Asbjørnsen and Moe, the Norwegian equivalent of the Brothers Grimm, the word pig had been replaced with fox.

When she discovered the same thing happening in another kindergarten, she wondered whether this was a new policy.
In Sweden previously, the wording of several older books for children such as Pippi Longstocking has been changed to make them more "culturally sensitive."

Extremists kill two, burn schools in South

A soldier and a Buddhist villager have been shot dead by suspected Islamic militants in separate drive-by shootings in the South, according to the police.

The latest violence has killed more than 1,900 people since January 2004.

Suspected insurgents torched Banphabon School in Khok Pho district on Sunday night. Two buildings were damaged and the arson led to the school closure.

Banphabon School became the 16th school burned by suspected insurgents in the deep south during December.

As I write, it is exactly a year since the desolate banlieues of France erupted in an orgy of violence, on a scale which had not been seen for generations. At the time, these riots were blamed on social exclusion. Since then, it has become clear that the rioters are not just 'immigrants' or 'youths', but are first and foremost Muslims. When they set light to a car, their cry is often: 'Allahu akhbar!' ('Allah is great!')
The violence, moreover, is endemic and ubiquitous. In 2005, there were 110,000 incidents of urban violence, including 45,000 vehicles burnt out. This year, there has been an average of over 100 incidents a day. Since the riots supposedly subsided last January, some 3,000 police officers are reported to have been injured. France is quite deliberately being made ungovernable.
This 'French intifada' was merely the culmination of a process that has turned many suburbs into no-go areas for the police and increasingly for non-Muslims too. In particular, the Islamist rabble-rousers who are behind the insurgency have incited their followers to attack Jews, who are now outnumbered by Muslims in France by at least ten to one.
How has it come to this? In this devastating indictment, the cri de coeur of an Englishman who loves France but is exasperated by the French, the background to this breakdown of civil society gradually emerges. David Pryce-Jones has discovered the explanation in the archives of the French foreign ministry, known after its imposing headquarters, the Quai d'Orsay. The corps diplomatique who have run this institution like a private club - known to initiates simply as 'la carrière' - are responsible not only for the decline of French prestige abroad, but also for creating the conditions for the unfolding catastrophe at home.
Like so many misfortunes, this one has its origins in the megalomania of the Bonaparte clan. For more than two centuries, since Napoleon's expedition to Egypt, French diplomacy has been gripped by a delusion of grandeur: the idea of France as une puissance musulmane, 'a Muslim power' - a phrase that has a new and sinister echo now.

Spain’s Islamic Board asks for permission to prostrate in Cordoba Cathedral

MADRID - Spanish Muslims said on Tuesday they had appealed to the pope to be allowed to prostrate themselves in worship in Cordoba Cathedral, which was built as a mosque during Spain’s centuries of Islamic rule.
In a letter to Pope Benedict XVI, Spain’s Islamic Board said senior Spanish Catholic clergy had rejected requests for Muslims to be allowed to prostrate themselves inside the Cathedral, which was converted into a church in the 13th century.
“What we wanted was not to take over that holy place, but to create in it, together with you and other faiths, an ecumenical space unique in the world which would have been of great significance in bringing peace to humanity,” the letter said.

Qur’an recited in Liverpool Cathedral

The Dean of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Rt Reverend Dr Rupert Hoare quoted parts of the Qur’an to an audience of more than two hundred people from various faith and non-faith groups of Liverpool’s community and organisations in the Anglican Cathedral on November 22. The Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Joan Lang, and the High Sheriff, were among the prominent guests of the community who attended the event.

The event was organised by the Islamic Society of Britain, Liverpool and was supported by the Abdullah Quilliam Society and the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, as part of a celebration for Islam Awareness Week. Islam Awareness Week which kicked off on November 19, is an effort to promote integration and tolerance in British Society. The programme commenced with a beautiful Qur’an recital by the Imam of Liverpool mosque. The message was integration, an element of the One World theme of Islam Awareness Week.

Muslims played a critical role in some key elections this year. But elected officials won't take them seriously if they don't continue to organize and turn out Muslim voters, two politically active Muslims said Saturday at a convention in Dearborn.
If there are efforts to register Muslims to vote, educate them about the candidates and get them to the polls to vote for one candidate, politicians will court their support, Jameel Johnson, an aide to U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., said at the Muslim American Society and Islamic Circle of North America convention.
"It is our job to make the Muslim vote visible to candidates," he said.
A strategy of organizing Muslim voters worked in Virginia this year in the U.S. Senate race.
The effort was so organized that Muslim taxi drivers in northern Virginia took the day off to ferry Muslims to the polls, said Imam Mahdy Bray, a speaker at the convention. Volunteers also made phone calls to Muslims in Virginia to urge them to vote, he said.
As a result, Democrat James Webb ousted incumbent Republican George Allen by about 9,000 votes in a race in which 50,000 Muslims went to the polls -- 47,000 of them voting for Webb, Bray said.
"You can make a difference when you work," Bray said.
Mohammed Shoman, 18, of Dearborn said the conference inspired him to get involved. "We realize how much our influence is" now, he said.

Jeddah, Dec 26 (NNN-APP) The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has made arrangements for sacrificing of about 710,000 animals including 700,000 sheep and 10,000 cows and camels, so as the pilgrims could perform the main rite of sacrificing animals during Haj with ease.
“A website www.adahi.org has been designed to enable individuals intending to buy sheep or any other animal for scarifying or Odhiya to do so through a credit card or money transfer in collaboration with the National Commercial Bank,” said the President Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali.
He said this before a reception hosted at IDB’s headquarters in the honour of media persons who are currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to cover events of the 1427H Haj.
The IDB president told media persons about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Project for the utilization of meat of scrificial animals, which the Bank has been operating since 1403H in collaboration with stakeholders of the project in the Kingdom.
The IDB president pointed out that the project has enabled pilgrims to perform this rite with great ease and thus focus on other Haj rites.
“It reassures the faithful that the animals meet all Shariah and health requirements,” he further indicated.
He said the project would help make the meat available to its rightful beneficiaries among the poor at the Holy Mosque and Holy Sites and then ship the surplus to 28 countries for distribution among deserving people.
More than 84,000 butchers have also been hired for sacrificing the animals manually.
He also spoke about the Bank’s activities and accomplishments since its establishment in 1395H (1975) to boost, in keeping with Shariah, the socio-economic development efforts of its member countries and Muslim communities in the non-member countries severally and jointly.

He's not a kook or an alarmist and he doesn't hear voices, strange eerie ones, in his head. He understands all too well what can happen and how if the public has been lulled into a false sense of security -- especially when the issue is illegal immigration.
As absurd as this story line surely must seem to rational people, Mr. Boehm worries that someday taxpayers actually could be forced to pay for lawyers representing illegal aliens in the U.S. who want amnesty and citizenship.
Boehm is co-founder and chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center, a Virginia nonpartisan foundation promoting ethics in public life. He also is not delusional.

Agents remove 2,300 illegal aliens in two weeks

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents removed more than 2,300 illegal aliens from the country in the past two weeks on 35 flights to the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia and Africa -- one of the busiest periods of the year for ICE's Office of Detention and Removal Operations.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers, who heads ICE, said 852 of those removed had criminal records, and that another 21 flights this week will take 2,087 aliens to Central America and the Caribbean, including 515 who are criminal aliens.

"By the end of this week, ICE's Air Transportation Unit will have facilitated the removal of more than 4,500 illegal aliens in 14 days, including 1,414 with criminal records," Mrs. Myers said. "Apprehending, detaining and removing criminal and other illegal aliens promotes public safety and protects the integrity of the immigration system."

This week's Caribbean/Latin American flights, which are regularly scheduled via the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System (JPATS) aircraft, are destined to Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua and Haiti (one).

ICE spokeswoman Kadia H. Koroma said that in addition to the regularly scheduled flights using JPATS, ICE Detention and Removal personnel returned last week from two special charter removal missions: one to Africa that repatriated 82 Nigerian and 17 Liberian nationals, and another that returned 55 Filipinos and 12 Cambodians.

Ms. Koroma said that on the African charter flight more than 60 of those removed had criminal convictions, involving drug-smuggling, possession with intent to distribute drugs, weapons violations, sexual assault on children, burglary and bribery. The group, she said, included 17 Nigerians with forgery and fraud convictions. She said that of the 55 Filipinos removed, 36 were criminal aliens and that 11 of the 12 Cambodian nationals removed also were criminal aliens. Their crimes included sexual offenses against children, sexual assaults, heroin smuggling, aggravated assault and homicide, she said.

Why L.A. jail cells have revolving doors
A strained justice system and a flawed rehab law feed the cycle of repeat offenders.

"Under any other definition of crisis, this would be an emergency," said Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who runs the nation's largest network of jails. "The system is collapsing because of its volume."

A solution, top law enforcement officials say, would require far more money than lawmakers have been willing to commit."We didn't cure malaria until we started draining the swamps instead of just swatting at the mosquitoes," said Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton. "The resources have just not been committed to draining the swamps."

They had been arresting (Bertha) Cuestas for prostitution and drugs since their days on the vice squad in the mid-1990s.

Rodopho Salcido had spent the last seven years in and out of prison, never in for more than a year or out for more than nine months. In 1999, he was convicted of stealing a $4,000 LAPD radio from an unmarked police car. Soon after, he went to prison in another burglary case, the first of four prison terms.

Orlando Gallegos, 34, a burglary suspect also wanted for failing to report for his parole, was living at a dingy Highland Park hotel. They found him in his narrow room, several baggies of heroin in the freezer, stolen credit cards on the dresser and two convicted criminals as company. Three years earlier, Gallegos had led him (Ofc. Marinelli) on a brief high-speed chase in a stolen car. Police first arrested Gallegos when he was 18 for possession of a small amount of marijuana. Five years later, he was arrested and convicted of vandalism. In 1999, he was convicted of domestic violence. A burglary conviction in 2000 led to prison time after he violated probation. Two years later, when Marinelli caught him driving a stolen car, he was sent back to prison.

Evaristo Torres, 31, was furious at the arrival of police. He said he'd only come by to find someone to "smoke some weed with, get a beer with." He told officers he didn't even know the names of the other men.

Gilbert Morales, 46, told police he was on parole for drunk driving and on probation for drug possession.The officer pulled a tiny baggie filled with what looked like rock cocaine from Morales' small front jeans pocket. Another bag held what appeared to be a balloon of heroin and powder cocaine.

Duarte and Marinelli had a hand in five arrests that week, all involving repeat offenders. Together, the five had at least 106 previous arrests and 61 convictions. Cuestas alone had been arrested 21 times, most recently in July.

Speaking in Dearborn late Sunday night, the first Muslim elected to Congress told a cheering crowd of Muslims they should remain steadfast in their faith and push for justice.
"You can't back down. You can't chicken out. You can't be afraid. You got to have faith in Allah, and you've got to stand up and be a real Muslim," Detroit native Keith Ellison said to loud applause.
Many in the crowd replied "Allahu akbar" -- God is great.

Senior CAIR employee Randall Todd Royer, a/k/a “Ismail” Royer, pled guilty and was sentenced to twenty years in prison for participating in a network of militant jihadists centered in Northern Virginia. He admitted to aiding and abetting three persons who sought training in a terrorist camp in Pakistan for the purpose of waging jihad against American troops in Afghanistan. Royer’s illegal actions occurred while he was employed with CAIR

CAIR's Director of Community Relations, Bassem Khafagi , was arrested by the United States due to his ties with a terror-financing front group. Khafagi pled guilty to charges of visa and bank fraud, and agreed to be deported to Egypt. Khafagi’s illegal actions occurred while he was employed by CAIR.

On December 18, 2002, Ghassan Elashi, founding board member of CAIR-Texas, a founder of the Holy Land Foundation, and a brother-in-law of Musa Abu Marzook , was arrested by the United States and charged with, among other things, making false statements on export declarations, dealing in the property of a designated terrorist organization, conspiracy and money laundering. Ghassan Elashi committed his crimes while working at CAIR, and was found Guilty. CAIR Board Member Imam Siraj Wahaj, an un-indicted co-conspirator in the first World Trade Center bombing, has called for replacing the American government with an Islamic caliphate, and warned that America will crumble unless it accepts Islam.

Rabih Haddad served as a CAIR Fundraiser. Haddad was co-founder of the Global Relief Foundation (“GRF”). GRF was designated by the US Treasury Department for financing the Al Qaida and other terrorist organizations and its assets were frozen by the US Government on December 14, 2001.Consistent with Hamas ideology, CAIR has served as a conduit for the distribution of materials and funds from foreign nationals to groups and institutions within the United States for the purpose of promoting radical Islam and Hamas ideology, and attacked Islamic clerics and scholars who reject radical Islam and the Hamas agenda.

Mr. Gallegos is a 5 feet 9 inch tall, 250 pound specimine of Post-American-America manhood. Virile, with short hair or a shaved head and creatively tattooed on both forearms.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call (562) 435-6711 so that he can be whisked through the citizenship process - post haste - because out there, somewhere, is a job no American will do and tax dollars just layin' around going to waste.

What makes the distinguished Mr. G so desirable is that he's proved repeatedly his disain for America and her laws - just look at his glowing arrest record. And he's proven the he DESERVES to be here since he's been deported repeatedly and just keeps coming back - you know, like a rash.

He see's America just as the financial and intellectual elites (as well as the lefties) do: nothing here to respect, nothing here to treasure and nothing here to be greatful for. Cops' shooter in hiding
Crime: Officers continue their fight for survival as ex-con eludes capture.

LONG BEACH - Police continued their manhunt Sunday for Oscar Gabriel Gallegos, 33, who they believe shot and critically wounded two officers Friday afternoon on a downtown street during a traffic stop.
Meanwhile, officers Abe Yap, 37, a nine-year veteran, and Roy Wade Jr., 39, who started on the force three weeks ago, were still in critical but stable condition at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
The two were shot through the front windshield of their patrol car Friday afternoon at Long Beach Boulevard at Sixth Street. They had stopped a white Nissan Pathfinder for running a red light. The vehicle was later found parked at 250 Elm Ave., a few blocks away.
As the search for Gallegos continued, more details on him emerged Sunday.
According to Los Angeles County Superior Court records, Gallegos was arrested in 1990 and later convicted in Long Beach for a firearms violation.
Gallegos was arrested and convicted in 1994 at the Long Beach Courthouse on charges of selling or transporting narcotics.
Gallegos was deported in 1994 as well, Long Beach Police Chief Anthony Batts said Saturday night.
In 1997, Gallegos was arrested but not convicted at the Long Beach Courthouse
on charges of making a criminal threat, assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of battery against a former spouse or fiancee, court records show.
Batts referred to the 1990, 1994 and 1997 charges in a press conference Saturday night, when he described Gallegos as a "known local thug."
Batts also said that Gallegos "may have been deported several times."

One resident said she rode in the elevator with Gallegos on a number of occasions.
Gallegos' brother and mother also lived in the building, they said.)

Tom Keim, a co-owner of Vin de Pays Wines on the first floor of the building, remembered Gallegos and his brother coming to the store one Tuesday night around 8:30 or 9 p.m., after the store was closed.
When the brothers wouldn't stop banging on the door, Keim let them in, he said. After tasting a number of wines, they bought one $4 bottle of beer, he said. He thought they were drunk at the time, he added.
