The U.S. Justice Department has decided to release another detainee from Guantanamo, a Yemeni named Ayman Saeed Abdullah Batarfi.
It is not entirely clear why Batarfi has been cleared for release. But we can be reasonably sure, based on Batarfi’s own freely given testimony, that he was no innocent swept up in the post-9/11 chaos of Afghanistan, as his lawyers claim...

If you though thought the Obama administration had tentacles, get ready for Barney Frank's latest "great idea": the Pay for Performance Act of 2009 (get a rundown at Little Green Footballs).
This capitalistic-sounding name hides the ability of the federal government to set wages, rates, perks, bonuses (*shiver* there's that word again), fringe bennies, reimbursement, everything an employee makes from any company, public or private, that accepts government funds from TARP or the 2008 Housing and Economic Recovery Act.
Much, much more after the jump...
While there is some strength to the thought that if you take the geld from someone, you have to dance to their tune. While this works perfectly well in the private sector where a person or group of investors or stockholders has a free decision as to whether to accept the strings associated with such funds, when the Federal Government does it, it is often without any choice, or even input, from those that own the business.
Take for example the current battle with Mark Sanford in South Carolina, where the Democratic leadership is attempting to force Sanford into accepting the funds and therefore the policy initiatives attached to the money. In what is most assuredy a violation of the Consititution, the most recent bailout bill specified that a State's legislature may override a Governor's say in the matter. So much for state's rights.
Be that as it may, there are many industries that recieve subsidies these days, and usually because the trade restrictions authored by anti-free-trade forces almost require them to accept these funds to stay in business. How long will it be that the legislation is expanded to cover any business, or anyone, that receives government funds or subsidies? I bet it happens soon.
Some of these industries are:
Farming/Agriculture of corn, wheat, feed grains, sorghum, barley, oats, cotton, milk, rice, peanuts, sugar, tobacco, oilseeds, soybeans, etc. etc. etc...
Commodities goods: Biodeisel, Alochol, Methanol, Urea Fertilizer, Steel, wind power generation, solar power generation...
Services: Mass Transit (Bussing, Amtrak, subways, metros, airlines), "free" health care, child care, "Family Planning", adoption, research (of damned near every type)...
Sure, these subsidized business take up a big chunk of the workers in America, but it's not everyone.
That's OK...

Silicon Valley: An Indian engineer killed two of his children and three other relatives, including a toddler, before turning the gun on himself in a 'horrific' shooting rampage in a posh Silicon Valley neighbourhood.
The lone survivor in the murder-suicide in Santa Clara area of California was the wife of the 42-year-old man who escaped with multiple gunshot wounds and collapsed in a pool of blood outside her home. She is fighting for her life at a local hospital, police said.
They said a neighbour called 911 at around 8:30 pm Sunday to report an injured woman outside a house on Headen Way in the high-end neighbourhood of Rivermark.
Police arrived to find five bodies in the house, all shot dead. The suspected gunman was dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, local media reports said. "There's no way to describe it other than horrific," Lt Phil Cooke of the Santa Clara Police was quoted as saying.
The youngest victim was an 11-month-old girl who was alive when police came but later died at a hospital.
Investigators said the man lived at the recently rented house with his wife and two children, aged 11 and 4.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox addresses the 'Hispanic Future Leaders Conference' at the UTSA Main Campus.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox was in San Antonio Friday, delivering a wide-ranging address about U.S.-Mexico relations that touched on trade, the drug war, comprehensive immigration reform and the United States' “mammoth” financial crisis that has spread worldwide.

Fox also delivered a message of hope — hope that someday Canada, the United States and Mexico, indeed the rest of Latin America, would function like the European Union.
“It's an extremely successful model,” said Fox, whose wife, Marta Sahagún, accompanied him.
“My vision is to speed up the process of further integration.”
Fox was in town to address the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute's Future Leaders Conference, held at the UTSA Main Campus. He received four rousing standing ovations from the crowd, many of them student business majors.
The event was hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio's College of Business. Fox acknowledged the difficulty of establishing a European Union-like structure in the Americas, given those who'd oppose it. But Fox said, “Hope is back again,” referring to the new U.S. president and the United States' “capacity to fight for ideals.”
“The border between Mexico and the United States is not as fluid, stable or open as the border with Canada,” Fox said. “This certainly is because there is a huge difference in the levels of development.”
Fox hailed the success of the North American Free Trade Alliance even as a student in the audience questioned its societal impact and inability to create jobs for Mexican citizens.
“It has happened,” Fox said of Mexico's job creation. Before NAFTA, annual “per capita income was $3,500. Today it is $8,500, three-fold growth.”
Fox also spoke of Mexico's war against drug cartels and its impact on “perhaps the most dynamic border in the world.” He reiterated comments made by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton this week, in which she said “insatiable” U.S. drug consumption drives the war.
Indeed, Fox conceded that more of his own citizens are engaging in drug use as cartels look for new markets.
And while he lamented how the terror attacks of 9-11 quashed potential plans for comprehensive immigration reform, supported by then-President George W. Bush, Fox expressed hope that President Barrack Obama would take up the charge.

Democrats have millions of dollars for ACORN but won't fund the troops...!
With US forces battling foes in two countries in The War on T----- the Democrats announced today that the Pentagon budget will be slashed this year.
Breitbart reported:
Senate defense committee chairman says Pentagon budget will include large, painful cuts. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin said Tuesday that major program cuts will not be pushed off until the 2011 budget, but will be included when Defense Secretary Robert Gates sends his spending plan to the president later this month. Levin's comments confirmed what many contractors and military leaders have expected, but he offered no details on which programs may be axed. He said Pentagon officials have indicated they will not be able to submit the much-anticipated spending plan by April 21, as initially hoped.

When asked what this 'inadmissible' evidence was, Dr. Yeats cited recordings from McDonald's drive-throughs and photos of Pete Rose.
"It was a whitewash, pure and simple."...

The Top Seven Techniques Liberals Use to Lie About Conservatives
**
John Hawkins writes that liberals spend much of their time trying to hide what they believe fr
om the public while conservatives are perpetually frustrated by the fact that the American people don't seem to understand what we really believe. He believes that both problems spring from a single source - that liberals lie incessantly. Although he admits that conservatives have their fair share of liars, liberals on the other hand do it as a rule, not the exception, and he has an interesting list of what he believes to be the top seven techniques that liberals use to lie.
You're sure to recognize most of the techniques - they're indeed, just that commonplace and we see examples of them time and time again.

In his book, which assuredly will make so-called "progressives" see red, Glazov describes the unholy alliance between jihadists and people like Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Ted Turner and Noam Chomsky.
He uses the Leftists' own words to reveal their agenda of death, and now a flood of praise is pouring in.
McFarlane said it is "the redefining work for 21st Century readers of an eternal message."
President Reagan's assistant secretary of defense, Richard Perle, said, "Jamie Glazov rolls over left-wing intellectual pretensions with a Mack truck that handles like a Porsche. He rounds them up – and when he's finished, there's nothing left."

Although history allows no doubt Leftist beliefs have spawned mass carnage and misery, and the deaths of millions of people, until now it has been extremely difficult for rational people who value personal freedom to understand the motivation of those who live in comfort, yet embrace monstrous dictators, ideologies and policies that leave only death in their wake.
Rising to the call, Glazov uses the astonishing words of well-known Leftists to explain their love for and deification of totalitarian ideologies with clarity and candor.
R. James Woolsey, former CIA chief, says Glazov's "courageous and illuminating book" calls out the "Nazis and Stalinists' of today."
"What draws Leftists moth-like toward the annihilating fires of unbridled totalitarianism, or drives them to slavishly worship at the feet of dictators?" asks Ben R. Furman, the FBI's former counterterrorism chief. "Dr. Glazov answers these and other 'head scratching' questions in a court-ready presentation of the Left's mindset that will make forensic psychologists proud."
"This superbly enlightening book should be required reading for the American and European policymakers that are not utterly beholden to the Left, for most of them have yet to come to grips with the Islamic supremacist agenda and its totalitarian imperative – which Glazov ably exposes here," writes Robert Spencer, author of the New York Times best-seller "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades)."
Glazov holds a Ph.D. in history with specialities in U.S., Russian and Canadian foreign policy, and is editor of FrontPage Magazine.
Quoting notoriously leftwing British lawmaker George Galloway, "United in Hate" makes the beliefs of today's political Left crystal clear:
"Not only do I think it's possible [a Muslim-leftist alliance] but I think it is vitally necessary and I think it is happening already," explained Galloway. "It is possible because the progressive movement around the world and the Muslims have the same enemies. Their enemies are the Zionist occupation, American occupation, British occupation of poor countries, mainly Muslim countries. They have the same interest in opposing savage capitalist globalization, which is intent upon homogenizing the entire world, turning us basically into factory chickens which can be force-fed the American diet of everything from food to Coca-Cola to movies and TV culture and whose only role in life is to consume the things produced endlessly by the multinational corporations ..." You get the idea.
Ronald Radosh at FrontPage notes how today's members of the Left "seek to forge an alliance with America's enemies, once the Communist world, now the forces of radical Islam;" adding, "Glazov traces and seeks to analyze the causes of this movement from the left's support of 'the red flag of proletarian revolution' to that of the 'black flag of Islamic jihad.'
"In many cases, Glazov shows how the same people who once sang the praises of Stalin as an anti-fascist leader now praise Islamic terrorists who seek to attack the West. While many learned from 9/11 that the West had real and very dangerous enemies, major figures of the once pro-Soviet Left apparently felt rejuvenated, viewing the attack on the twin towers as the revenge of the masses for American oppression of the Third World. For these people, Glazov writes, 9/11 was a 'personal vindication,' since they saw 'only poetic justice in American commercial airplanes plunging into American buildings packed with people,'" Radosh says.
Adds Brigitte Gabriel, a renowned terrorism expert and New York Times best-selling author, "'United in Hate' is a must-read for all Americans concerned with the future of America."
"Finally, someone has the courage and the bravery to fully expose a mystery which for years has baffled us. The trutyh is o the cover, but it takes someone like Dr. Glazov to make us see it," says Joan Lachkar, author of "How to Talk to a Narcisssist."
"Any leftist who reads this, and has any honesty left in his mind, must recognize himself in this picture and, hopefully, be ashamed," adds Vladimir Bukovsky, once a leading Soviet dissident and author of "Judgment in Moscow."
Within hours of its release, "United in Hate" was No. 1 among books relating to communism on Amazon.com.
Glazov concludes: "This is where the Western Left and militant Islam (like the Western Left and Communism) intersect: human life must be sacrificed for the sake of the idea. Like Islamists, leftists have a Manichean vision that rigidly distinguishes good from evil. They see themselves as personifications of the former and their opponents as personifications of the latter, who must be slated for ruthless elimination."
Sounds crazy, but how else can one explain the views of famed moviemaker Francis Ford Coppola, who said of one of the world's most notorious dictators: "Fidel, I love you. We both have the same initials. We both have beards. We both have power and want to use it for good purposes." Or Harry Belafonte, who said: "If you believe in freedom, if you believe in justice, if you believe in democracy, you have no choice but to support Fidel Castro."

Someone once said that, for every rookie you have on your starting team in the National Football League, you will lose a game. Somewhere, at some time during the season, a rookie will make a mistake that will cost you a game.
We now have a rookie president of the United States, and, in the dangerous world we live in, with terrorist nations going nuclear, just one rookie mistake can bring disaster down on this generation and generations yet to come.
Barack Obama is a rookie in a sense that few other presidents in American history have ever been. It is not just that he has never been president before. He has never had any position in any kind of organization where he was personally responsible for the outcome...

On top of that, this Obama pick believes that "America's focus on the War on Terror [is] 'obsessive.'" And his list of countries that flagrantly disregard international law highlights North Korea, Iraq, and the U.S.A. -- which he collectively calls "the axis of disobedience."
"Obama's most perilous legal pick," by Meghan Clyne for the New York Post, March 30 (thanks to Doc Washburn):
JUDGES should interpret the Constitution according to other nations' legal "norms." Sharia law could apply to disputes in US courts. The United States constitutes an "axis of disobedience" along with North Korea and Saddam-era Iraq.
Those are the views of the man on track to become one of the US government's top lawyers: Harold Koh.
President Obama has nominated Koh -- until last week the dean of Yale Law School -- to be the State Department's legal adviser. In that job, Koh would forge a wide range of international agreements on issues from trade to arms control, and help represent our country in such places as the United Nations and the International Court of Justice.
It's a job where you want a strong defender of America's sovereignty. But that's not Koh. He's a fan of "transnational legal process," arguing that the distinctions between US and international law should vanish.
What would this look like in a practical sense? Well, California voters have overruled their courts, which had imposed same-sex marriage on the state. Koh would like to see such matters go up the chain through federal courts -- which, in turn, should look to the rest of the world. If Canada, the European Human Rights Commission and the United Nations all say gay marriage should be legal -- well, then, it should be legal in California too, regardless of what the state's voters and elected representatives might say.
He even believes judges should use this "logic" to strike down the death penalty, which is clearly permitted in the US Constitution.
The primacy of international legal "norms" applies even to treaties we reject. For example, Koh believes that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child -- a problematic document that we haven't ratified -- should dictate the age at which individual US states can execute criminals. Got that? On issues ranging from affirmative action to the interrogation of terrorists, what the rest of the world says, goes.
Including, apparently, the world of radical imams. A New York lawyer, Steven Stein, says that, in addressing the Yale Club of Greenwich in 2007, Koh claimed that "in an appropriate case, he didn't see any reason why sharia law would not be applied to govern a case in the United States."
A spokeswoman for Koh said she couldn't confirm the incident, responding: "I had heard that some guy . . . had asked a question about sharia law, and that Dean Koh had said something about that while there are obvious differences among the many different legal systems, they also share some common legal concepts."
Score one for America's enemies and hostile international bureaucrats, zero for American democracy.
Koh has called America's focus on the War on Terror "obsessive." In 2004, he listed countries that flagrantly disregard international law -- "most prominently, North Korea, Iraq, and our own country, the United States of America," which he branded "the axis of disobedience.[...]
Even though he's up for a State Department job, Koh is a key test case in the "judicial wars." If he makes it through (which he will if he gets even a single GOP vote) the message to the Obama team will be: You can pick 'em as radical as you like.

IL: Muslim Cabbies Beat & Threaten Non-Muslim Female Passengers Paying With Credit Cards
**
Cab riders held prisoner, assaulted and even ripped off - all because of how they wanted to pay their fare. There have been thousands of complaints against cab drivers in Chicago. CBS 2 Investigator Dave Savini exposes the hefty price some have paid when they jumped in the backseat. Cab drivers are getting caught refusing to pick up passengers, stealing credit cards - and even committing assaults.
"He became aggressive and attacking me because I didn't have any cash with me," said Connie Magana.
That's what happened to Magana in 2007 when she was a Telemundo reporter heading to an assignment on Chicago's west side. "I didn't know if he had a gun or if he had a knife," Magana said. She says the driver locked her in the cab, and began attacking her. "Swollen and a lot of bruises on my arm," Magana said. "And this side of my neck." The cab driver, Tawiah Mansfield, was convicted last year of battery. "I was afraid that he could take my life over $23," Magana said.
CBS 2 Investigators obtained city records detailing nearly 3,000 complaints against cab drivers since 2005. That's when it became mandatory for most drivers to take credit cards.
In 2008 alone, the number of complaints reached an all time high of 908. Commissioner Norma Reyes with the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection regulates and disciplines cab drivers.
When asked if cab drivers should be refusing to take credit cards, Norma Reyes said, "They should absolutely not be refusing." Reyes said the spike in complaints about credit cards is "absolutely disturbing to hear and not acceptable." Complaints vary from just refusing to take a card to verbal abuse to actual threatening behavior.
One complaint said, "I was scared for my life."
Another said the driver "threatened to hold her hostage." Still others say they were locked in cabs, and forced to go to ATM machines.
"The driver grew irate and then locked us all in the cab," said Kristi Harshbarger. That happened last year, says Harshbarger, in one cab.
The year before, she says, another driver stole her credit card number.
"There was a $300 cab fare charge, a $250 cab fare charge and I believe another $200 cab fare charge," Harshbarger said. Harshbarger's bank records show that over three days, more than $961 was charged on her credit card for cab rides – and more was spent at restaurants she says she's never been to.
"I was very upset at first," Harshbarger said. "I was just trying to pay for a $12 fare."
She's not alone.
Besides stolen numbers, passengers have complained about being charged more than once, and drivers changing the amount owed on credit card slips. Harshbarger says that she only pays cash now when taking cabs. "We do have some things that are on the table to address this issue," Reyes said. "I will never try to pay with a credit card or debit card ever again," Magana said. "I got that afraid."
City officials say they are working on a way to crackdown on this problem.
CA: Officer, dog square off against Hispanic mob of 60
Some members of the crowd (of Obama supporters) told the officer that
"he was not going to leave the scene alive."

A Modesto police officer had to pull his gun to keep a hostile crowd at bay early Sunday.
The officer sustained minor injuries in the southwest Modesto incident, said police spokesman Sgt. Brian Findlen. Police are not releasing the officer's name. The officer's dog was assaulted but not seriously injured, Findlen said. Police arrested several suspects in connection with the incident. A loaded assault rifle was found later at the scene of the struggle, which unfolded about 2 a.m.
Findlen said the officer pulled his gun only after other deterrents, including his police dog, failed to keep the crowd under control. "In a situation where you really feel that your life is in imminent danger, your options become very few," Findlen said.
Some members of the crowd told the officer that "he was not going to leave the scene alive," according to police.
The crowd of as many as 60 people included some known gang members, Findlen said. Police believe the group was gathered for a party in the 1700 block of Pelton Avenue. The officer happened upon the group when he was responding to another call in the area.
The officer saw several people assaulting one man, Findlen said. As the officer tried to break up the fight, the crowd's attention shifted from the assault victim to the officer. The crowd surrounded the officer. The officer sent his dog into the crowd in an attempt to stop the group.
The dog apprehended one suspect, who police later identified as 18-year-old Alfredo Espinoza of Modesto. As the officer tried to arrest Espinoza, the crowd pulled Espinoza away from the officer.
According to police, some in the crowd then challenged the officer to a fight. One suspect attacked the officer, police said.
Officer's radio broken
The officer's two-way radio was broken during the struggle. The officer then used his gun to hold off the crowd as he tried to tell neighbors to call 911. Someone in the crowd had a police scanner, Findlen said, and told the rest of the crowd that other officers weren't responding to the scene. It was then that the officer was told he wouldn't be leaving the scene alive, according to police.
Backup units responded after calls from other residents.
Other officers responding to the scene stopped a vehicle and found Espinoza inside, Findlen said. The driver, 20-year-old Modesto resident Andrew Mitchell, and the passenger, 19-year-old Modesto resident Matthew Reyes, were arrested on suspicion of resisting and delaying a police officer, assaulting a police dog, and "lynching." Lynching is a law enforcement term that means forcibly removing a suspect -- in this case, Espinoza -- from police custody.
Two police scanners were found in the vehicle.
Two other suspects were arrested at the scene of the struggle. William Rodriguez, 29, of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, false imprisonment of a police officer and lynching. Junior Suarez, 19, of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of resisting and delaying a police officer and lynching.
Assault rifle found
Officers reportedly found a loaded assault rifle magazine near the scene of the assault.
During a follow-up investigation later Sunday morning, police said, officers found a loaded, banned assault rifle that police believe was used at the scene of the party. Gabriel Avila, 21, of Modesto was arrested on suspicion of possessing an assault rifle.
Detectives are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to called the Modesto Police Department at 572-9500 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Tipsters also can text information to 274637. Type "TIP704" with your message.

The era of Obama: The worst of both worlds
American Mob Rule
by Victor Davis Hanson
**
We need (such) a Socrates in Washington right now, who would dare tell the American mob the truth of how we are descending into financial serfdom. But in this present mood, the aroused mob would first make him drink the hemlock.
**
In the last three months, we've been reduced to something like the ancient Athenian mob — with opportunistic politicians sometimes inciting, sometimes catering to an already angry public.
The Greek comic playwright Aristophanes once described how screaming politicians — posing as men of the people — would sway Athenian citizens by offering them all sort of perks and goodies that the government had no idea of how to pay for.

The man who created two phenomenally successful "We The People" YouTube videos urging Americans to stand up against Congress and reclaim their republic now – or perhaps lose it forever – reportedly has been summoned to the White House
by President Obama to discuss the subject matter of the short films.
Bob Basso, who posts videos under the name funbobbasso on YouTube, has created videos in which he portrays Thomas Paine, author of the "Common Sense" pamphlet that made the case for independence during the American Revolution.
Basso, whose website offers his services as a motivational speaker
, uses the YouTube presentations to condemn "non-representing representatives" and warns, "Only when they feel the almighty wrath of 'We The People' marching in the streets from California to New York shouting 'We're mad as hell and we want our country back' will they get the message they work for you."

He was scheduled this week to appear on the "Jerry Doyle Show" when he told the radio host that Obama had personally invited him to meet in the White House "to discuss the disturbing nature of the videos."
According to a spokesman for Doyle's show, at the time when Basso was supposed to be calling in for the show, he was unavailable. Basso reached the show several hours later, explaining he had been flooded by media calls and literally was unable to call out.
The result, the spokesman said, was that Basso promised to provide Doyle with the first exclusive interview after he meets with Obama, provided the invitation still stands after the meeting was leaked to the press.
The spokesman said information about the meeting has not been made public, and show producers are waiting to see what develops. A WND message left for Basso was not immediately returned.
The Doyle show reaches about 3 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, and is the fastest growing show in Talk Radio Network Enterprises' history with more than 240 stations.
In his second video, which has been seen more than 1.1 million times, Basso challenges people to let Congress know their displeasure by sending tea bags. It is embedded here:
He criticizes Congress for approving the "largest spending bill in history without reading it" and criticizes American citizens, because "you did nothing."
He raises the issue of billions of dollars for benefits for illegal aliens, the exportation of U.S. jobs overseas and others.
"If your self-serving Congress were a business they'd all be in jail now," he said.
"Wake up, America. While you were playing with the toys of your consumer wealth, you lost much more than your bloated economy of living beyond your means. You lost your representative democracy. Your servants have become your masters. Taxation without representation is tyranny," he said.
He's equally unhappy with Americans in the first video, embedded here.
In that piece he warns of the problem of supporting the rest of the world while America needs to be rebuilt.
Referring to "progressives," he said, "We had another word in 1776. We called them traitors."
Basso is the author of the best-selling book "This Job Should Be Fun" along with 10 other books, including "Lighten Up Corporate America!"
A former award winning news director for NBC TV and visiting professor at UCLA, Basso has a Ph.D in communications.
Doyle's distinctive repertoire includes former Wall Street insider, TV star and jet pilot. He has starred in many made-for-TV movies, but is best known as the character Michael Garibaldi on the Emmy winning Sci-fi television series "Babylon 5," which ran for five years.

Incredible video of New York Muslim child's indoctrination
Muslim indoctrination of their children to hate Jews and Christians occurs right here in America.
Take for example what you see in the video below. In the way of a description, Robert Spensor at Jihad Watch writes:
[...] More on teaching children to hate: watch this cute little Muslim girl answer a series of questions about Islam ... Note the ones about hating Jews and Christians, and about rejecting the idea that the Qur'an was created, rather than existing eternally with Allah, identical to the "Mother of the Book, in our presence" mentioned in Qur'an 43:4. This complicates the possibility of historical criticism and reform.
Note also all the approving comments from Muslims in the YouTube thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGFjkfKoECc&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ehyscience%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded.
This has been going on in the U.S.for some time now, particularly in Islamic schools. In June 2008 WND reported that a curriculum review found Islamic schools in America to be breeding anti-Semitism, but so far little action has been taken to reverse what is a definite trend.

Fifteen Patients Die as Earth Hour Kills Life Support in Hospital
I haven't confirmed if this is satire or not. Since it's San Francisco, there's no use in applying logic when trying to figure it out... Logically, I would expect such a story coming out of SF to be true... but still, even so, it just doesn't sound credible:

San Francisco, CA – Fifteen patients on life support and in surgery died at San Francisco General Hospital when power was cut for "Earth hour" on Saturday.
The hospital was pleased with their participation in the worldwide celebration of the planet. "We asked all the patients and their families if they were all right with us cutting the power. To a person, they all said as stewards of this planet it was their duty to observe Earth Hour. They knew the risks and were willing to take it," said hospital administrator Lawrence Cho.
Cho said that it was a net gain for planet Earth, despite the deaths. "The dead patients will no longer use any energy, and actually will be turned into energy in our patient incinerator," said hospital administrator Lawrence Cho.
As power was cut in the critical care ward some patients screamed in pain, others died calmly in their sleep. Cho said that most of the medical equipment has battery-powered back up systems, but those were disabled, because hospital officials felt that violated the spirit of Earth Hour.
Heart surgeon Dr. Gregory Morris was doing an open-heart procedure when the lights went out. "I wasn't sure what I was cutting into. Turns out it wasn't his heart, but his bowels. Unfortunately, Mr. Simms didn't make it."
Marla Tompkins, surviving sister of cancer patient Warren Tompkins, said, "Warren struggled for breath as his ventilator was powered down. I thought he might make it, but with three minutes left before power was to be turned back on, he expired. It was tragic, but kept me on the edge of the seat the whole time."Cho hopes other hospitals learn from the example of San Francisco General and participate in next year's Earth Hour.

In the wake of the "requested" resignation of the head of General Motors and the government's pressure on GM to restructure and merge if it wants more Federal crack money, not to mention Turbo-Tax Tim's request for power to seize non-banking financial firms, I thought this snippet from Goldberg's Liberal Fascism would be appropriate:

...
The fascist bargain goes something like this. The state says to the industrialist, “You may stay in business and own your factories. In the spirit of cooperation and unity, we will even guarantee you profits and a lack of serious competition. In exchange, we expect you to agree with—and help implement—our political agenda.” The moral and economic content of the agenda depends on the nature of the regime. The left looked at German business’s support for the Nazi war machine and leaped to the conclusion that business always supports war. They did the same with American business after World War I, arguing that because arms manufacturers benefited from the war, the armaments industry was therefore responsible for it.
It’s fine to say that incestuous relationships between corporations and governments are fascistic. The problem comes when you claim that such arrangements are inherently right-wing. If the collusion of big business and government is right-wing, then FDR was a rightwinger. If corporatism and propagandistic militarism are fascist, then Woodrow Wilson was a fascist and so were the New Dealers. If you understand the right-wing or conservative position to be that of those who argue for free markets, competition, property rights, and the other political values inscribed in the original intent of the American founding fathers, then big business in Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, and New Deal America was not right-wing; it was left-wing, and it was fascistic. What’s more, it still is.

MILTON, Mass. (AP) — With her long hair and model's poise, 17-year-old Samantha Revelus exuded confidence when she recited an original poem Saturday afternoon about a strong woman who stood up to "ignorant souls."
An hour after she finished rehearsal for an upcoming poetry reading, Samantha was dead on the floor of her family's home. She had been stabbed, police say, by her 23-year-old brother. Kerby Revelus then decapitated his 5-year-old sister as her birthday cake from the day before sat on the kitchen table, before turning on his 9-year-old sister, who called police.Responding officers broke down the door and shot him dead.
The first one inside had witnessed Bianca's beheading.
Sarafina was hospitalized Sunday with defensive wounds to her hands and stab wounds in her abdomen and one of her legs.
"In policing, we see the raw human emotion every day, but to think that a human being could afflict such an atrocious, violent act on his own family is unbelievable," Milton police Chief Richard G. Wells Jr. said Sunday. "When I walked up to the first officer (on the scene), I could see the whole story right in his face. This just told me that this was something very bad."

Victim converts to marry her Muslim rapist & end social stigma
Either that or else she is being coerced by the rapist's mother to marry him so he can get out of jail. "Rape victim converts to Islam to marry accused," from Hindustan Times, March 27:
A rape victim has told a city court that she wants to marry her violator. Almost four years after Sheila was allegedly raped by Ali (both names changed), she has converted to Islam and is ready to accept him as her husband.
She told the court that her marriage to Ali was necessary to end the social stigma she faced since 2005.
The drama unfolded on Thursday in the court of Additional Sessions Judge V.K. Khanna during the hearing of the bail plea of Ali.
Sheila, who had earlier identified the accused and deposed against him in court, pleaded that after registration of the case in 2005, people in her locality were constantly maligning the image of her family. “The rape case has made my life hell and jeopardised my future prospects of leading a happy married life. I want to marry Ali, as our marriage would end my ordeal,” Sheila told the court. She even requested the court to release the accused on bail, so he could marry her.
But the prosecution vehemently opposed Ali’s bail plea. Maintaining that rape was not a compoundable offence, the public prosecutor said it was simply a ploy of the accused to escape punishment.
The court dismissed Ali's bail plea saying rape was a criminal case and the accused should be punished for the crime. “The mother of the accused had approached the victim and put pressure on her for the marriage. It is a ploy to organise a false marriage ceremony to get the accused out of the jail,” said advocate Banju, who is associated with the Rape Crisis Cell, Delhi Commission of Women.
The accused has now filed another application requesting the court to allow him marry the victim in judicial custody.

Morocco announces end to homosexual tolerance
**
march 29, 2009
You see, many in the Muslim nation are "asking for a strong hand against perverts."
Of course, this should not be surprising since the Muslim penalty for homosexuality is death. According to Minhaj al-Muslim (the "way of the Muslim"), “Gay people should be thrown head first off high buildings and if not killed on hitting the ground, they should be then stoned to death."
"Spain: Press, Morocco announces end to gay tolerance," from ANSAmed, March 24:
(ANSAmed) - MADRID, MARCH 24 - Morocco announces the end of tolerance with regard to homosexuality, is the title of the full page article in today's El Pais, referring to the initiative which the Ministry for the interior in Morocco is using to 'confront all actions which go against religious and moral values, within the framework of the law''.
An article with the headline in red on the front page of magazine Al Michaal triggered the reaction by the government in Rabat; in it a gay Moroccan couple tell the story of their wedding, reciting a prayer which comes before the reading from the Koran. The formula is very common in Morocco, between heterosexual couples as well, but it does not mean that the union is legal. In a message quoted by El Pais, the Ministry for the interior registered "voices in the media which are trying to make a case for ignoble behaviour which is a provocation to national public opinion and which are against the moral values and teachings of our society".
The government will carry act against these people "within the framework of current laws". Homosexuality is punishable in Morocco from six months to three years imprisonment, even though courts do not usually pass sentences for this kind of crime. Nevertheless arrests of gays are commonly made as a 'deterrent''.
El Pais notes that "while several publications are indulgent towards Moroccan gays, the main body of the press is asking for a strong hand against perverts". Spain's ambassador in Rabat, Luis Planas, recently became involved in the controversy, when he was photographed with the secretary of Colegas, a Spanish association which defends the rights of gays and lesbians, and with Bargachi, the coordinator of Kifkif (from equal to equal), an association which supports gays in Morocco. (ANSAmed).

Fear and (Self) Loathing of the Sinister Left
Author Jamie Glazov Discusses New Book on Terror
**
If you've followed any of the countless anti-war and anti-Israel demonstrations in America and Europe over the past few years, you've seen a wild mix of radical forces at work. Islamic fanatics linking arms with godless Communists; upper class, bohemian socialists waving Palestinian flags and yelling "Allahu Akhbar;" or maybe Marxist college professors and Hezbollah sympathizers marching side by side to denounce America and Israel. On the surface, these bizarre alliances seem to make little sense. But Jamie Glazov says they are merely the natural, destructive outcome of left-wing ideology. Glazov's new book is called United in Hate: The Left's Romance with Tyranny and Terror.
In the book, Glazov--the son of Soviet dissidents who fled to the United States (through Italy) when he was a boy--takes a scalpel to the left's mindset and belief system and shows why they so often lead to the very horrors leftists claim to oppose: despotism, oppression and a complete disregard for personal freedom and human rights. I sat down with Glazov recently at CBN's Washington, D.C. bureau to discuss this powerful book and his personal motivations for writing it.

Who is arming the Mexican drug cartels?
**
Napolitano stated, "70% of the weapons in the hands of the drug cartels are coming from the US." The implication is obvious she is referring to private gun owners. The MSM sucks up this propaganda like a large-mouth bass takes a worm, and regurgitates it to Boobus without ever questioning the truthfulness behind the claim. Neither Mexican, nor US officials, has ever produced an ounce of proof to back up these wild accusations.
The fact is: the Mexican authorities have refused to release the serial numbers of weapons confiscated from drug cartel members. Releasing the serial numbers would implicate the corrupt governments of the US and Mexico and their involvement in arming the drug cartels.
**
The state, Mexican authorities and their US propaganda arm, known in most circles as the Mainstream Media, have recently embarked on a huge disinformation campaign to demonize the American gun owner as the supplier of weapons to the Mexican drug cartels. Everyone in the media, with the possible exception of Lou Dobbs, has joined in the campaign of lies.
Shown here, on a CBS special, is video proof of the lies and disinformation by CBS, US and Mexican authorities. Anderson Cooper and Janet Napolitano are either ignorant or complicit in the myth that M-203s, RPGs and hand grenades are readily available to the American gun consumer. Most intelligent folks, and those without a state sponsored agenda, realize these weapons are usually only available to the military.
This week, Secretary of Homeland Defense, Janet Napolitano, announced a new plan to curb the alleged flow of weapons from the US into Mexico. This program, which will cost the overwhelmed US Taxpayer another 700 million dollars plus, includes machines that employ what is referred to as "virtual strip search." This plan will supposedly slow down the number of guns traveling south from the US to the drug cartels in Mexico. If this program has the same success rate as the government’s efforts at stopping the flow of contraband north into the US, the Mexican drug cartels will have nuclear weapons by the end of April!...

Mark Levin Talks Liberty
If more people would come out like Levin, our country would not be in the shape that it is. We need to re-embrace the fundamentals of conservatism.

Hate crime charges filed in anti-gay attack by Muslim.

"He gouged out 21-year-old Nazime's eyes, cut off her tongue and put her remains in a plastic bag before taking them to the mountains near their village and burning them. He was jailed for just five years."
(Telegraph)As the British discover what actual gay-bashing looks like, homosexuals appear less inclined to go along with the coalition of useful Dhimwits.
