**
Each people creates a culture that reinforces its own unique traits.A culture alien to that people would thus fail to reinforce their unique traits and ultimately lead to their dissolution and slow-motion genocide. Likewise, mass migration of one people into another people's country causes unnecessary conflict, and hurts both the immigrants and the native population of the nation. For this reason, EAU supports self-determination for all races and peoples; so they are free to develop and practice their own cultures and traditions in an environment that will continue their own unique development.

O'bami's Healin' Hands! Halleluliah!

**
AUSTIN — Ginny McCallum, 43, who has been confined to a wheelchair for much of her adult life, came to hear presidential candidate Barack Obama speak at the University of Texas. Afterward she found herself in a wheelchair access breezeway as Obama and his entourage exited the arena. The candidate spotted her, came over, grabbed her hand and pulled her up. She found herself standing for the first time in eleven years.
"He smiled at me and said, ‘Yes, you can,’" she says. "I was so stunned I didn’t know what to do."
McCallum is among hundreds of people who say they have been healed by the Democratic candidate, in one of the most surprising and little-acknowledged aspects of his campaign. Reporters have shied away from the story, chalking it up to "Obama-mania" and people’s feelings of elation.
"We don’t talk about it a lot, but yeah, it does happen," says one staffer who says he has seen multiple people healed on a rope line. "We don’t know exactly how or why it’s happening, and the Senator won’t talk about it. He usually insists that people keep it quiet and just report it to their pastor or priest."
Greeting supporters after a rousing speech in Houston, Obama stepped into the dense crowd and spontaneously began touching people: a legally blind woman, a man deaf in one ear, a cancer sufferer and a lame man.
"Yes, you can," Obama said as he laid hands on afflicted bodies.
The people’s reactions were so joyous as to be almost frightening. They jumped and shouted and wept. Before they could thank or embrace the candidate he was well down the rope line healing others. Their excitement was lost in the general din of the crowd.
Aides acknowledge that the phenomenon is occurring with greater frequency.
"His power goes beyond simple inspiration," says one aide. "There is something developing here that I’m not sure any of us fully understands."
They say Obama has told them privately that his time has not yet come, so it would be inappropriate to talk about the healings right now. He says he will wait until the convention to speak publicly about the "special calling" he believes he has to lead the country. They do expect him to start alluding to "the providential nature of what is happening on the campaign trail" in an upcoming address, mostly because word is getting around.
People have begun bringing relatives by the score to campaign events in hopes of a healing touch. "It’s not the speeches that are drawing people anymore, as good as they are," says a senior staff member. "It’s people wanting to get better, and wanting their friends and relatives to get better. It’s the belief that there’s something more here." •

Outgunned Agent Held at Gunpoint by Mexican Military

NEWSFLASH!
MEXICO IS NOT OUR FRIEND!

A Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent was held at gunpoint by the Mexican military last night south of Ajo. While we're certain that some managers within the DHS and the President of Mexico will find a way to blame the Border Patrol agent, we would like to point out that the agent was in the United States, doing his job.
Mexican military personnel crossed over the border and pointed rifles at him. Backup units arrived from the Ajo Border Patrol station, and the Mexican military personnel eventually returned to Mexico. Once again, they come into our country, point rifles at our agents, and are allowed to return to Mexico as if nothing happened. One can only imagine the outrage if American soldiers or Border Patrol agents entered Mexico and pointed rifles at someone.
Unfortunately, this sort of behavior by Mexican military personnel has been going on for years. They are never held accountable, and the United States government will undoubtedly brush this off as another case of "Oh well, they didn't know they were in the United States."
A few years ago the Mexican military went a step further and put a .50 calibre rifle round through the rear window of a Border Patrol agent's patrol vehicle south of Ajo. Nothing was ever done. Nobody was ever held accountable. Even worse, nothing has changed. Particularly galling is the fact that the Mexican military often pulls these stunts in Humvees donated to them by the American taxpayers (although they were apparently on foot this time). We note that Border Patrol agents have historically driven worn-out, junk vehicles.

We will withhold further comment on this incident until we see how our leaders handle it. We don't have much confidence in most of them. They usually just sell us out, make excuses for the Mexican military, and invite more of the same.

It is fortunate that this incident didn't end in a very ugly gunfight.

Jihad Economics and Islamic Banking

The United States and the West cannot win the war against radical Islam merely with the most sophisticated military strategies. Winning requires understanding the role of shari'a and the Muslim Brotherhood in developing a global ideological and political movement supported by a parallel "Islamic" financial system to exploit and undermine Western economies and markets.
This movement is the foundation and the major funding source for the political, economic, and military initiatives of the global Islamic movement.1
Shari'a finance is a new weapon in the arsenal of what might be termed fifth-generation warfare (5GW).2
The perpetrators include both states and organizations, advancing a global totalitarian ideology disguised as a religion. The end goal is to impose that ideology worldwide, making the Islamic "nation," or ummah, supreme.3
Rising oil prices and the West's dependency on Middle East oil, combined with willful blindness and political correctness, provide a surge of petrodollars, making financial and economic jihad so much easier to carry out. Moreover, according to shari'a, Muslims hold all property in trust for Allah.4
Therefore, under the shari'a, all current and historic Muslim acquisitions everywhere, including the United States , belong to the ummah, in trust for Allah.Shari'a is the crucial source and ultimate authority dictating the actions of practicing individuals and radical Muslim states and movements alike. Failing to understand the political use of shari'a hampers the U.S. ability to mount effective policies, plans, and strategies to successfully counter this fast-growing totalitarian threat...

US War With Iran: Al Qaeda's opportunistic strategy

**
August 4, 2008 01:33 PM
By Olivier Guitta
Part 1
While the crisis over the Iranian nuclear program is taking a nefarious turn, implications for the West and the Middle East are being assessed. But not much is said about Al Qaeda.
In fact, how is Al Qaeda going to take advantage of this situation?
I wrote a piece for the Middle East Times on that topic.
You can read the whole article here.
Israeli transport minister and potential future Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz, addressing a Washington crowd on Friday, left no doubt about Israel's intentions regarding Iran's nuclear program: Israel won't let it go through. Since negotiations with Iran have gone nowhere in the past six years, military confrontation looks almost inevitable. While the international community fears the implications of such an outcome, one player can't wait for the first shots to be fired: al-Qaida.Al-Qaida has been expecting and awaiting a U.S.-Iran war over the nuclear issue. It is in fact one of the major tenets of al-Qaida's master plan. According to the late Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi, the very likely collision between the United States and Iran over the nuclear issue is going to help al-Qaida advance its plan. Indeed since Iran is going to be less focused on exerting its control on Syria and Lebanon, al-Qaida will easier penetrate these two countries.
Jordanian journalist Fouad Hussein in his 2005 book, "Al-Zarqawi: Al-Qaida's Second Generation" delved extensively into that issue. Thanks to his personal connection to Zarqawi - many years ago, they spent time together in prison - Hussein was able to interview him along with other major al-Qaida leaders, including Seif al-Adl, the Egyptian terrorist allegedly behind the attacks against the two U.S. embassies in West Africa in 1998.
Unsurprisingly, Hussein explains that al-Qaida's final goal is to establish an Islamic Caliphate in 20 years through seven phases. The first phase called, "The Awakening" really started on Sept. 11, 2001 when al-Qaida attacked New York and Washington D.C. These attacks supposedly awakened the Muslim nation (the "ummah") that had been in hibernation. This phase ended in 2003 when coalition troops entered Iraq.

Tyson Drops Labor Day for Muslim Holiday

Tuesday, August 05, 2008
SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. — Workers at the Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Shelbyville will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day but will instead be granted the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr.
According to a news release from the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, a new 5-year contract at the plant included the change to accommodate Muslim workers at the plant.
Tyson's director of media relations Gary Mickelson said the contract includes eight paid holidays — the same number as the old contract.
Eid al-Fitr — which falls on Oct. 1 this year — marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.
Union leaders say implementing the holiday was important for the nearly 700 Muslims, many of them Somalis, who work at the plant that employs a total of 1,200 people.

Breaking* Sister Maya’s Name Uncovered on Alleged Obama Birth Certificate [Update]
August 5, 2008 · 34 Comments
Forensics specialist Techdude, who has been chipping away at the Obama Birth Certificate mystery for some time, has confirmed that the name on the original Certificate of Live Birth (COLB) which was used to forge the document presented by Barack Obama as his valid Birth Certificate IS:
Maya Kassandra Soetoro.
His sister.
The document presented by Obama as the “truth about his birth certificate” can be seen on his official campaign web page, “FightTheSmears,” here.
In an exclusive TexasDarlin report on Sunday, Techdude revealed that he had discovered the true identity of the person on the original COLB, but that he was not ready to disclose that person’s name.
He gave readers step-by-step instructions for conducting the analysis at home. In a follow-up post, I published a comment by Techdude in which he explained why he was waiting to name the person, and he challenged readers to solve the mystery first, offering a free trip to Las Vegas for the first person who posted the correct answer.
Several hours later, KG, a reader on the TexasDarlin blog, posted her/his discovery in the Comments section of this post, and detailed the technical process she/he followed to get there.
KG revealed the original name on the COLB:
Maya Kassandra Soetoro.
Techdude has reviewed KG’s analysis, and verified the result.
KG does not have the technical tools to immediately produce a report for publication, and is not sure he/she wants to be published. Nevertheless, you can read KG’s process yourself in the Comment thread.
In the coming days, Techdude will provide a final report that fully discloses his discovery, and provides all the fancy technical data, images, formulae etc. that everyone has come to expect. He will respond to questions posted on this blog to the best of his ability. (NOTE: KG has asked Techdude to donate the trip funds to help retire Hillary’s debt, and Techdude has agreed.)
Now, Senator Obama faces a serious and urgent inquiry from Americans:
Why was his sister Maya’s birth certificate used to make his own?
I have a preliminary theory, and it goes something like this:
The Hawaii COLB form was revised in 2001. Prior to that, it included much more birth information, such as name of the hospital, signatures and professions of parents, etc.
If Obama needed to show his birth certificate to the public during the election, he wanted to present the current short version, but the one he had in a shoebox somewhere was an older version.
When it became clear in 2007 that he might need to show it, Maya’s COLB was ordered. Obama did not order his own because he didn’t want a chatty Hawaii Govt. employee to notice that the child’s name on his COLB is Barry Soetoro, and the father’s name, Lolo Soetoro. He did not want his legal name and Indonesian identity to be known.
If it got to the point that the campaign needed to show a birth certificate, as a last resort they would make a few digital adjustments to Maya’s in order to transform it into Barack Hussein Obama’s COLB, and post it on line. They trusted, in this event, that Govt. employees or officials would not bother to check it against his real name, or would just keep quiet if they did notice. Obama probably never expected the electorate to question its authenticity, at least not to this degree.
That’s my theory, anyway.
There are, of course, two other important questions related to this investigation:
1. Is Maya aware that her COLB was used to fabricate Obama’s?
AND
2. Why does Maya have a Hawaiian birth certificate in the first place, as she was born in Indonesia?
Judah Benjamin, our resident historian and researcher, will be discussing these questions in the coming days.
Stay tuned.
Maybe now the MSM will WAKE UP to this story.
Update: Based on a reader’s comment, I edited the title, and am adding this thought: All of this assumes, of course, that there IS a Hawaiian Birth Certificate for Maya Soetoro, and that her name and other identifying information would NOT itself be part of the forgery. I have no idea whether that is possible; it has not been discussed yet with Techdude.
[NOTE TO CRITICS: To everyone making demands of me and Techdude, you will need to be patient. The full report will be thorough, and Techdude will address your questions on this blog when he can. We have other responsibilities in life, including the need to sleep. If Barack Obama were transparent, and if the Mainstream media did the job for which they are paid, the work taking place on this and other blogs would not be necessary.]

The Islamification Of The US Justice System

Defense attorneys for terrorists and their sympathizers have embarked on a crusade to cut out special privileges for Muslims within the American justice system, and consequently tie up the system in religious argument.
**
**
Whether it be at the trial stage or in the penitentiary, Islam is to be accorded a special status if these abettors have their way.
An example of this is alluded to in an article about the vilification of Gordon Kromberg, a Federal Prosecutor, who led a series of investigations in Islamic groups in Virginia and who successfully prosecuted Sami Al Arian.
As reported in the New York Sun:
“Attorneys for a former Florida college professor who pleaded guilty two years ago to aiding Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Sami Al-Arian, are asking a federal judge to hold a hearing on whether anti-Muslim bias led to the government’s decision to obtain a new indictment of Al-Arian in June for contempt for refusing to testify before grand juries pursuing the Virginia organizations.
While the motion claims Muslim terrorism suspects are generally treated unfairly by the Justice Department, Al-Arian’s lawyers argue that Mr. Kromberg, 51, has a particularly egregious record of intemperate statements and actions in a series of terrorism-related cases and investigations.”
1.”Al-Arian’s lawyers claim that in 2006, when Mr. Kromberg moved to obtain new testimony from the former professor following his guilty plea in Florida, the prosecutor “became agitated” in response to a defense lawyer’s request that the testimony be put off until after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. “They can kill each other during Ramadan. They can appear before the grand jury; all they can’t do is eat before sunset,” Mr. Kromberg responded, according to a declaration written by one of Al-Arian’s attorneys, Jack Fernandez. Mr. Fernandez said the prosecutor described the request for a postponement as “all part of the attempted Islamization of the American justice system.” Mr. Fernandez wrote that he viewed the comments as exhibiting “apparent bias against Muslims.”
and
2.” In the case, Mr. Kromberg argued that the religious beliefs of the defendant and other witnesses made it acceptable to lie to kaffirs, or nonbelievers in Islam. “If you are a kaffir, Timimi believes in time of war, he’s supposed to lie to you,” the prosecutor told jurors. Al-Timimi was convicted of treason and sentenced to life in prison.
“Kromberg argued to the jury that Timimi and the other Muslim witnesses — their testimony should be disregarded just on the basis of their religion,” al-Timimi’s defense lawyer, Edward MacMahon Jr., said. “I think it’s an outrageous thing to argue in the courtroom. Imagine that directed at any other religion.”
We here at DBKP are fascinated by these assertions. Shocked, actually, that there is someone in the Federal Government that actually has the remotest understanding about the true nature of Islam. After listening to Bush’s laughable nonsense about Islam being a religion of peace, and reading countless print articles in the mainstream press about the accomplishments of Islam, all factually wrong and demonstrating what must be willful ignorance, it is a welcome surprise to find an individual in authority and to read what Muslims believe because Mr Kromberg is correct on both counts:
The idea that Ramadan is so special as to constitute a timeout in war or at trial is a fiction perpetrated by Muslims on the West.
From the infamous decision not to war against Islamic nations during Ramadan, to the attribution of special privileges at trial, the West has become convinced that it commits a great cultural slight by contesting a Muslim during the Ramadan month.
It is all BS.
While the Koran dictates a day fast during Ramadan, it is hardly onerous. One eats prior to sunrise and after sunset. Ramadan is characterized by nightly feasts and parties. This is when restaurants do their best business in Islamic countries. During this time, weight gain is as significant as Christmas season weight gain is in America.
There is a long tradition of Muslims attacking Christians and others during Ramadan. The idea of Ramadan being a peaceful and reflective period is absurd: Israel was invaded during Ramadan. Wikipedia has more info on Ramadan battles.
As to the proclivity of Muslims to lie, Westerners, whether Christian or not, are caught in the Judeo-Christian belief system that lying is morally wrong. This is untrue in Islam. Mr Kromberg seems acutely aware of this, and it is hoped that he will brief the Court, because the American judicial system relies on the premise that someone is telling the truth.
It seems incredible to us, but Muslims–even Muslim Police Officers–will spin the most fantastical stories in Judicial proceedings in their own countries, and are equally likely to lie in America.
Consider for a moment the defenses thrown up by CAIR for various Jihadi activities, such as CAIR’s explanation for the two Egyptian college students caught with “fireworks” in South Carolina. The pair had bombs, pipes, timers, a video on terrorist bomb attacks, and a computer with targets identified, as well as links to Jihadi sites.
According to CAIR, this constituted “fireworks”.
What the Koran, or Islam’s most Holy Book, says about lying:
“Muslims are permitted to lie: (1) to save their lives, (2) to reconcile a husband and wife, (3) to persuade a woman into a bedroom and (4) to facilitate one on his journey. Muslims are even permitted to disavow Islam and Mohammed if it is not a genuine heart-felt rejection. Muslims will tell you that concealment of a truth is not an abandonment of that truth if it benefits Islam.”
In otherwords, one can justify any lie, and so Muslims do.
There you have it. Mr Kromberg was right on both counts, hence the attempt to villify and silence him.
Because nothing scares Islamic adherents so much as light shined upon their true beliefs and acts.

Mexico criticizes US salmonella findings

NEWSFLASH!

MEXICO IS NOT OUR FRIEND

**

By E. EDUARDO CASTILLO, Associated Press Writer

Thu Jul 31, 7:14 PM ET

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080731/ap_on_he_me/mexico_us_salmonella_probe
**
MEXICO CITY - Mexican agriculture officials said Thursday that U.S. colleagues hunting for the source of a salmonella outbreak are rushing to a conclusion about finding the strain at a Mexican pepper farm.

The salmonella sample that one U.S. official called "a smoking gun" was taken from a water tank that had not been used for more than two months to irrigate crops, said the director of Mexico's Farm Food Quality Service, Enrique Sanchez.
Sanchez told a news conference on Thursday that the tank held rain water and suggested that roaming cattle or other factors could have recently contaminated the tank with the same strain of salmonella that has sickened 1,300 people in the United States since June.
On Wednesday, Dr. David Acheson, the food safety chief for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, described the finding of the salmonella strain at a farm in the northern state of Nuevo Leon as a key breakthrough in the case.
"We have a smoking gun, it appears," said Dr. Lonnie King, who directs the center for food-borne illnesses at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Sanchez said the U.S. officials "totally lacked scientific evidence" to make such statements and said they had broken a confidentiality agreement by announcing findings before their investigation is complete.
"We're eating this same produce in Mexico and we haven't had any problems," Sanchez said.
He suggested the FDA officials confused the source of the samples because the tainted water was found on a farm in the Tamaulipas state municipality of Hidalgo — not in Nuevo Leon as the FDA reported.
The FDA issued a statement later Thursday saying it was "surprised and disappointed" the Mexican response.
"We are confident of our findings," the statement said. "FDA's analytical methods are publicly available."
Miguel Angel Toscano of Mexico's Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks said Mexican investigators also took samples from the soil, water and vegetables the FDA had tested and found salmonella in some of the samples taken in Tamaulipas. But he said more tests need to be done to determine the strain.
Previously, the FDA had traced a contaminated jalapeno pepper to another farm in Tamaulipas. Both farms shipped through a packing facility in Nuevo Leon, raising the possibility that contamination could have occurred there.
The FDA has advised consumers to avoid raw serrano and jalapeno peppers from Mexico and any foods that contain them.
Sanchez said Mexico produces 2.4 million tons of peppers per year but exports only 12,000 tons are exported fresh to the United States. Another 267,000 tons of canned or bottled peppers are sent to the U.S. each year, he said.
He said pepper exports have not stopped, but U.S. authorities have been taking samples from shipments at the border and holding them up for up to a week until waiting for results.
Sanchez said officials have not yet determined the scale of the warning's impact on Mexico's pepper industry.

Why I call it "Lost Angeles"

Graffiti vandals turn violent in LA
Aug 1 02:35 PM US/EasternBy THOMAS WATKINSAssociated Press Writer
**
LOS ANGELES (AP) - One man got stabbed. Another got shot in the chest. A 6-year-old boy was temporarily blinded when he was spray-painted in the face.
And they were the lucky ones among those who have had run-ins with graffiti "crews," or gangs.
Over the past 2 1/2 years in Southern California, three people have been killed after trying to stop graffiti vandals in the act. A fourth died after being shot while watching a confrontation between crews in a park.
"We have seen a marked increase in these graffiti-tagging gangs taking to weapons and fighting to protect their walls, their territory, their name," said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Robert Rifkin.
Los Angeles County has battled graffiti for decades, spending $30 million a year to paint over or clean up the emblems, names and other images spray-painted on stores, concrete-lined riverbeds, rail lines, phone booths, buses, even police cars. On Wednesday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law requiring convicted graffiti vandals to remove their scrawl.
For some taggers, protecting their work is akin to defending their names and their honor.
"If we see someone calling the police, then we target them," said Mario Garcia, 20, who describes himself as a former tagger trying to become a professional artist. "You are trying to stop me from what I live, what I believe in and what I breathe? We are not going to let no one get in the way."
Workers who remove the graffiti say they take caution if they find a crew at work. They wait until the taggers leave before cleaning up.
"We won't say anything to them," said Rogelio Flores, whose company Graffiti Busters contracts with Los Angeles to blast away the markings with high-pressure hoses. "We don't know what kind of weapons they have."
Police tell residents to resist the urge to confront graffiti crews.
"It's not worth the risk," Rifkin said. "Take a deep breath, back off and call law enforcement."
Some of the violence has been between rival crews, which are increasingly acting like street gangs. And some of the bloodshed has involved real street gangs that mark their turf with their names or emblems. But some of the victims have been innocents.
In an attack last month, two youths spray-painted the face and body of the 6-year-old boy who spotted them scribbling gang signs on a wall near Compton. The boy recovered from chemical burns to his eyes.
On the same day, a 51-year-old auto mechanic was shot in the chest in Los Angeles when he confronted two suspected gang members painting the wall of his shop.
Another man, Michael Lartundo, 26, was stabbed in the hand and arm after yelling at a group of graffiti vandals scrawling on a wall in March behind his brother's house in suburban Whittier.
"I just told them it ain't right," Lartundo recalled. "I said, 'If you are going to write on the wall, write on your own wall.'"
The most recent attack occurred July 15, when a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed after rival graffiti crews converged on a Los Angeles park for a fight. The victim was in a crowd of onlookers.
Last August, Maria Hicks, 58, was shot in the head and died after flashing her headlights and honking at a teenager spray-painting a wall near her home in Pico Rivera, a blue-collar suburb east of Los Angeles. Four people have been charged with murder.
Ten days after Hicks died, Seutatia Tausili, 65, was fatally shot and her grandson wounded when he told taggers to stop vandalizing a trash can outside their home in Hesperia in San Bernardino County. Three men were charged with murder.
Robert Whitehead was shot to death in 2006 in the Los Angeles County area of Valinda when he tried to keep taggers from marking a neighbor's garage. Investigators arrested one man with alleged ties to the Mexican Mafia, a prison gang.
Artist Dartagnan Curiel, 31, said he used to scrawl graffiti and grew sick of the violence. He now paints murals with positive messages as a way to speak out against the bloodshed in his Los Angeles neighborhood and to encourage graffiti vandals and gang members to lay down their arms.
"Why would you want to put spray paint on a kid's face?" he says. "We live in the same community. We are all in this hellhole together."

BARACK TAKES $ FROM HAMMAS

Why is Barack Obama Taking--& Lying About--Illegal Campaign Contributions from Gaza's HAMAS Muslims?
**
**** UPDATE: And Then there were THREE. Looks like Pam missed one of the Edwans--Osama Edwan--also a Palestinian from "Rafah,GA," who illegally donated to Obama; lists himself as a "trader". ****
As we all know, it is illegal for any U.S. candidate for federal office (and most state and local offices) to accept campaign contributions from foreign nationals. It is also illegal for any U.S. candidate for President to accept more than $2,300 per election cycle.
So, why has Barack Hussein Obama accepted over $24,000 from Monir and Hosam Edwan in Rafah, Gaza? And why is he lying about it by noting on his official filings with the Federal Election Commission that Rafah is in Georgia? Rafah is the HAMAS-controlled city on the border of Egypt and is the site of the Rafah gate.
Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs broke the story and has the full details. How long until plagiarist Aaron Klein and WorldNutDaily rip them off as an "exclusive"? Great work, Pam.
Time for a Federal Election Commission complaint to be filed.
Obama--the candidate of HAMAS . . . literally AND monetarily.

Cops: Boyfriend Took Photos as He Dismembered Teen's Body
Friday, August 01, 2008
**
The dismembered body of a 17-year-old British girl was found in a suitcase after she was murdered in Brazil, allegedly by a man who had hoped to marry her.
The torso of Cara Marie Burke, from Southfields, southwest London, was identified by her mother from a photograph of a distinctive tattoo that said “Mum.”
Mohamed D’Ali Carvalho dos Santos, 20, allegedly admitted photographing Cara’s dismembered corpse on his cell phone after killing her in Goiânia, central Brazil.
He told police that he murdered Cara on Saturday after she threatened to tell his parents, who live in London, that he was a drug dealer addicted to cocaine. He said that she was also considering turning him in to the police.
Dos Santos, of Brazilian of Turkish heritage, is believed to have been living in Britain illegally and had told friends that he wanted to marry Cara to obtain British citizenship.

IPT NewsJuly 31, 2008
The State Department has collaborated with many radical Islamist organizations and individuals in its attempts to engage in outreach to the American Muslim community at large, Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) Executive Director Steven Emerson told a congressional panel Thursday. Many of the individuals in charge of these organizations, and the organizations themselves, have been convicted, indicted, or designated as unindicted co-conspirators in terrorism cases throughout the United States.
(For detailed examples, see Emerson's complete written testimony here.)
Emerson appeared before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade came despite the protests of some of the same Islamist organizations. Emerson urged Congress to review the State Department's interaction with these organizations in its attempts to reach out to the Muslim community.
Emerson outlined some of the more troubling aspects of participation with these groups: namely their ties to terrorist entities and promotion of radical Islamic ideology. A number of groups that the State Department has cooperated with have links to entities such as Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hizballah - which are designated as terrorist organizations by the United States government. The groups partnering with the State Department help to support an ideology that focuses on eliminating secular Western powers and promoting their stringent ideas of Sharia law, or law as governed by Islamic text.
In his testimony, Emerson argued that the State Department's actions in funding these programs only serves to legitimize fundamentalist voices who wish to promote a strict interpretation of Islam. This approach helps to increase support for terrorist groups and violence, which will help to aggrandize fundamentalist theology worldwide. The focus of the State Department's funding should promote genuinely moderate voices within the Muslim community, rather than reaching out to those who justify violence, support designated terrorist groups, and promote the funding and support of jihadist ideology globally.
While the outreach to the Muslim community by the State Department "is an honorable and worthwhile pursuit, the State Department has conducted outreach to the wrong groups, sending a terrible message to moderate Muslims who are thoroughly disenfranchised by the funding, hosting and embracing of radical groups that purport to be opposed to terrorism and extremism," Emerson wrote in his testimony further stressing the idea that the State Department's polices need to be reanalyzed in order to better select which Islamic organizations receive funding in order to promote peace and understanding.
Prior to Emerson's testimony, Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ) both expressed their concerns over the State Department's funding and support of these organizations to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. They collaborated on a letter in which they urge Secretary Rice to stop funding entities that support radical Islamic ideology. The senators' concerns are that despite these organizations' known connections to radical terrorism entities, the State Department has willingly participated in awarding grants of about $500,000 to the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas fundraising trial with a long history of support for Hamas itself, and other radical Islamic organizations for programs that could help to promote or fund future terrorist ideology and violence.
In their letter, the senators write that they "are sure you would agree that Americans should not have to fund their enemies in the form of misguided ‘outreach' efforts." These sentiments are exactly in line with the expression of tribulation that Americans should be feeling due to the United States government supported funding of radical Islamist organizations. The evidence that Emerson presented before Congress further justifies the senators' concerns. Hopefully the combined effort of the two senators and Thursday's testimony will motivate Secretary Rice to expound upon the policies regarding which organizations and individuals in the Muslim community the State Department selects to receive grants.
Subcommittee Chairman Brad Sherman (D-CA) also was interested in ways to reform State Department outreach funding. He suggested creating a questionnaire for prospective grant recipients. Among the areas it would ask about are past connections to radical groups, whether the applicant condemns terrorist groups such as Hizballah and Hamas and whether their board members ever were connected to the Muslim Brotherhood or other radical groups.
Emerson endorsed the idea, saying such a questionnaire could be applied universally. But he cautioned that a written answer may not be truthful: "There has to be an independent due diligence conducted by State Department officials using the public record and if they have classified information -- which many of them have access to -- use that as well; that's the purpose of intelligence collection."
Sherman seemed to agree, saying earlier, "I don't think you can cleanse an organization just because they haven't sinned recently; it has to be a renunciation of support for terrorism."
Joining Emerson on the panel was Douglas Farah, a former Washington Post reporter who is senior investigator for the Nine Eleven Finding Answers (NEFA) Foundation. He spoke about ways to maximize foreign aid money in the fight against terrorism. Terrorist groups take root in failed nation states, he said, noting that nearly half of the 43 foreign terrorist organizations listed by the State Department are engaged in narcotics trafficking.
Terrorism can't be fought without trying to improve conditions in those failed states and thereby cutting off illicit funds that terrorist groups use to operate. He cited the case of international weapons smuggler Victor Bout, arrested in Thailand and awaiting extradition to the United States to face charges he conspired to kill Americans and provide material support to terrorists. U.S. officials properly followed protocols to execute the extradition, but it has been twice delayed, Farah noted. Russian officials are believed to be tempting Thai officials with oil and gas contracts in return for sending Bout there.
"We cannot and should not try to match different efforts to bribe or coerce the Thai judiciary. But it should be made amply clear that there will be significant consequences if Mr. Bout is not extradited," Farah said. "And, if possible, enhanced aid, particularly to the Thai police units that capably and willingly helped carry out the arrest, should be considered."
Several of the Islamist groups who have benefited from the State Department's short-sighted selection process have become agitated about Emerson's testimony and evidence highlighting their extremist positions and terrorist connections. In the week leading up to his testimony, two Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups, each with a lengthy record of support for terrorist entities such as Hizballah and Hamas, issued press releases, personally attacking Emerson and Rep. Sherman, the subcommittee chairman, in an attempt to block Emerson's testimony.
The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) issued two press releases over two days, in which the group "demands" that the Subcommittee include an expert of its liking "or cancel the panel." The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) also issued a press release titled, "Urgent Action Alert: Demand Responsible Testimony in Fight Against Terrorism," also demanding that unless an ISNA-approved "expert" is made to testify, then "the session be canceled."
ISNA, a known Muslim Brotherhood front organization, has received grants from the State Department in support of several programs that it runs in partnership with the National Peace Foundation. Furthermore, in a filing in federal court in Dallas last week, ISNA's lawyers conceded the organization's financial support of Hamas leader Mousa Abu Marzook, through its affiliate organization, the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT).
MPAC also has connections to and support for terrorist entities. The organization has repeatedly lobbied to remove Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hizballah from the U.S. list of designated terrorist groups, claiming their inclusion is merely based on "political considerations," rather than their long, bloody and violent history of terrorist attacks against civilians. On top of this, MPAC Executive Director Salam Al-Marayati has engaged in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, infamously stating on a Los Angeles radio station in the immediate aftermath of the 9-11 terrorist attacks: "If we're going to look at suspects, we should look to the groups that benefit the most from these kinds of incidents, and I think we should put the state of Israel on the suspect list."
In response to the protests, Congressman Sherman issued a press release in which he stated, "This hearing will go on. We need to make sure that the State Department is not giving U.S. tax dollars to those on the other side in the war on terrorism." He added "The Muslim Public Affairs Council should apologize for the statements of its executive director on September 11, 2001."
MPAC, ISNA and a constellation of other radical groups and individuals have been supported by the State Department. Perhaps Thursday's testimony will signal a turning point, seeing the State Department implement stricter guidelines to avoid past mistakes and embarrassments, which have damaged America's national security.
It is encouraging to see someone in Sherman's position take the issue on so fearlessly and directly.
"I think one of the greatest fears of people in the United States is somebody may call you a racist...they may call you an Islamophobe," he said in the hearing. "And what we've seen with some of these organizations is their message is clear: ‘Give us money or we'll call you an Islamophobe'...that's what they say to the State Department. What they say to us in Congress is ‘Don't question the fact that we're getting money or we'll call you an Islamophobe.'"
