If the Bush administration attacks Iran's nuclear facilities, Hezbollah may launch attacks in the United States, according to terror experts. In addition, these sources add that Hezbollah cells in the United States could launch a preemptive attack in the United States to serve as a deterrent to such potential U.S. military action.
Hezbollah, known as the Party of God, grew out of the Lebanese civil war in the early 1980s. Known primarily as a terrorist group, Hezbollah is funded, armed and trained by Iran.
"Because of the heightened difficulties surrounding U.S.-Iranian relations, the FBI has increased its focus on Hezbollah," said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson in Washington. "Those investigations relate particularly to the potential presence of Hezbollah members on U.S. soil."
The Bush administration has not ruled out military action against a clandestine Iranian nuclear weapons program as part of its announced intention to build nuclear reactors for civilian use.
