Webb Says His Novels 'Inappropriate' for News Radio
By Nathan Burchfiel
CNSNews.com Staff WriterOctober 27, 2006
(Editor's note: Corrects quote in the 10th paragraph.)
In an interview on Washington Post Radio Friday morning, Jim Webb, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Virginia, said excerpts of his novels are "a little bit inappropriate" to be read on news radio.
Plotkin was reading an excerpt from Webb's novel "Something to Die For," in which Webb describes a female stripper performing sexual acts with a banana.
The books include some graphic sexual passages, as well as frequent uses of a racial slur for blacks and descriptions of Vietnamese women as "monkey-faced."
Among the excerpts is a scene from the 2002 novel "Lost Soldiers," in which a man embraces his four-year-old son and places the boy's penis in his mouth.
Webb said the release of the excerpts was "a Karl Rove campaign tactic" and a "classic example of the way this campaign has worked. It's smear after smear."
He defended his fiction as "illuminative."
"It's not a sexual act," Webb told Plotkin regarding the "Lost Soldiers" excerpt.
"I actually saw this happen in a slum in Bangkok
when I was there as a journalist."
Coincidentally, a Cambodian woman in Las Vegas is facing sexual assault charges for performing a similar act on her young son, according to an Oct. 14 report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The article quotes an office manager for the Cambodian Association of America, who described the act as a sign of respect or love.
According to the report, the act is usually performed by a mother or caretaker on a child who is one year old or younger.
Webb criticized the Allen campaign for focusing on excerpts from his novels.

Law Firms Are Starting to Adopt Outsourcing
By JULIE CRESWELL

For years, outsourcing has been a dirty word inside the world of white-shoe law firms.
While certain law firms hired companies to handle travel or records storage, most drew the line at sending client billing or confidential documents out of their offices, let alone out of the country.
A number of large law firms, though, are starting to tiptoe onto far-flung shores.
The latest is Clifford Chance, one of the largest law firms in the world with 29 offices in 20 countries, which will announce plans today to consolidate and move big chunks of its administrative functions like accounting and technological support to an operation in Delhi, India, by next spring.
The shift to India could eventually result in up to $18 million a year in savings, the law firm estimates.
While corporate America has embraced sending clerical, customer and technical support functions overseas, law firms have been much more reluctant to do so. Their chief concern is that confidential client documents or information could be leaked, stolen or simply lost.
But in the race to offer large global corporate clients like I.B.M. or the Gap around-the-clock attention and legal advice, many law firms are opening up satellite offices all over the world.
While good for the clients, the costs of operating dozens of offices across the globe leave law firms aghast. Therefore, some are looking at ways to centralize many back-office functions but also to move them out of high-cost cities like New York and London and into either lower-cost regions of the United States or abroad to places like India.
“The fully loaded cost for a clerical person in a major metropolitan area can run $85,000 to $100,000 a year,” said Mark Santiago, chief executive of International CoSourcing Group, a management consultant for law firms. “If you multiply that by 70 or 100 people, you have a major cost center, and law firms are being put under great pressure from corporations to reduce their bills.”
Despite the attractive economics, a mere trickle of law firms have actually moved operations out of their headquarters or to overseas locations. Yet some are betting that law will be the next industry to shift parts of its operations to lower-cost regions of the world.
“We think legal is going to be our biggest market going forward,” said Liam Brown, the president and chief
executive of Integreon Managed Solutions, an outsourcing firm that is building the center that Clifford Chance will use in India.
About six years ago, a rival to Clifford Chance, Baker & McKenzie, opened an office in the Philippines to do word processing for offices in the Asia Pacific region. Today, that office, with Baker & McKenzie employees as its staff, creates spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations; monitors the firms’ entire computer network; and handles about 40 percent of the financial work for the Pacific region, including client billing.
“We have a lot of small offices, and they can’t have 24-hour word-processing support or somebody who is going to make them a high-quality Power Point presentation,” said Craig Courter, chief operating officer with Baker & McKenzie.
Clifford Chance is following a similar model with its move to India. It will be the anchor client for a 45,000-square-foot operation being built by Integreon. Integreon will manage the center, but Clifford Chance will oversee the employees.
Clifford hired Integreon about two years ago to handle some of its word-processing functions. This step will involve moving certain accounting activities, like accounts payable, and technical support functions to the Indian site, said Amanda Burton, the director of global business services for Clifford Chance. Ms. Burton said client billing would not be done in the overseas office, at least for now.
“Nothing is in the ‘do not touch’ basket,” Ms. Burton said. “We just have to make sure that what we do initially works.”
Many other law firms are taking a similar baby-step approach to sending work overseas.
About a year ago when White & Case, another law firm, considered hiring an outside company in India to handle word-processing activities, it wanted to make sure documents going over its computer network could not be intercepted or that individuals working in India could not print out the documents or take them home.
And while Richard McKenna, the chief administrative officer for White & Case, said he had been happy with the work the outside firm had done and that some marketing functions had now also been moved overseas, he had concerns about sending other documents too far from home.
“We do continue to look at outsourcing as a way to improve efficiencies and manage infrastructure costs, but it’s not a quick decision that we would make,” he said.

Back Door to Terror
Oliver North October 25, 2006Washington, D.C.
Since 9-11-01, Americans living along the U.S.-Mexican border have been warning that our porous frontier is a back door for terrorist entry into this country. Local, state and federal law enforcement officers, overwhelmed by the flow of human traffic across the border, have acknowledged the threat -- and been widely ignored by the mainstream media and “official” Washington. Last year, in little noticed congressional testimony, FBI director Robert Mueller, Jr. revealed that “individuals from countries with known al Qaeda connections have attempted to enter the United States illegally using alien smuggling rings and assuming Hispanic appearances.”
Now, thanks to the investigative reporting of FOX News correspondent William Lajeunesse, the monarchs of the media and the potentates on the Potomac can no longer ignore reality. Mr. Lajeunesse took the time to carefully digest a new staff report prepared by the House Committee on Homeland Security. It ought to be required reading for every reporter and official in Washington, D.C.
Titled, “A Line in the Sand -- Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border,” the just-released report confirms what many have long suspected: our border is a sieve, not a barrier, for radical Islamic terrorists transiting into the United States. The Investigations Subcommittee charges that from September 11, 2001, to the present, hundreds of illegal aliens from countries “such as Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Pakistan,…and Afghanistan” were apprehended crossing into the United States.

But that’s not all the bad news. Investigators also found:

* In June 2006, seven Iraqis were caught in Brownsville, TX;
* In August, an Afghani man was caught crossing the Rio Grande into Texas;
* FBI Director Mueller, Jr. has testified that a Hezbollah cell had been “dismantled” after discovering that the terror organization was smuggling operatives across the U.S. -Mexico border to carry out terror attacks inside the United States.
* Individuals from countries with known al Qaeda connections have changed their Islamic surnames and adopted false Hispanic identities in order to escape detection and blend into American society.
* Radical Islamic groups that support Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamiya Al Gamat are all active in Latin America.

All that is bad enough but the bombshell -- as reported by Mr. Lajeunesse and confirmed in the congressional report -- is the role being played by Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.

Disneyland: The Most Racist Place On Earth???

"INTERNATIONAL BOYCOTT OF THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY AND ALL OF ITS AMUSEMENT PARKS, PRODUCTS, SERVICES, AND MEDIA OUTLETS"
The Mexica Movement, an Indigenous Rights Educational Organization, is calling for an immediate international boycott against The Walt Disney Company and all of its holdings. We are asking for this boycott because Disney has made a habit of hiring talkshow hosts who spread the Minutemen white supremacist racist agenda against the Mexican and Central American communities in the United States [Mexican and “Central American” descent people are in their vast majority an Indigenous people (Full-blood and Mixed-blood)].
let me remind us all that the motto of LaRaza is:
"FOR THOSE IN THE RACE, EVERYTHING.
FOR THOSE OUTSIDE THE RACE, NOTHING."

EXPOSING THE LATINO-CHICANO MOVEMENT:
I guess Viligarosa (current Mayor of Los Angeles, CA) is a true American, huh?

At the 1997 Southwest Voter Registration Education Project meeting, where Antonio Villaraigosa was present, his good friend Jose Angel Gutierrez said “we have an aging white America, they are dying, I love it!”
Villaraigosa’s close friend Mario Obledo, co-founder of MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund) and winner of the 1998 Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Clinton, said on the Tom Leykis talk show - 6/17/98:
“We’re going to take over all the political institutions of California, in five years, we’re going to be the majority population in this state.”
On the Ray Briem talk show - 6/17/98 Obledo said:
“California is going to be a Hispanic state and
anyone who doesn’t like it should leave”
Asked by Ray Briem if he thought that the statement was racist, Obledo said
“No, because that’s a reality. California is going to be inhabited mostly by Hispanics…"
saying further:
“Well, if they (Anglos) don’t like Mexicans they ought to leave. They ought to go back to Europe.”

About 100 rally against illegal immigration

Greg Hodai felt like the luckiest man alive when his family
won the green card lottery 10 years ago.
It was their ticket to leave his post-communist Hungary and start life anew in the United States. He came to America legally, selling everything his family owned to afford the airplane tickets, and that’s why he attended a rally in downtown Fort Myers on Sunday against those who cross the border illegally.
“I am an immigrant, but I came the legal way,” said Hodai, 30. “I am now a U.S. citizen.”

I live in San Antonio, Texas.
My forefathers were among the original American settlers in Texas and there are historical markers available on line, that denote their presence and accomplishments. I have watched, with a heavy heart, as this part of the United States of America is being transformed into a Third World environment. The tourists see picturesque but, I can assure you that there is nothing picturesque about it for the Americans who live here.
I am a retired female who has watched my health benefits become so degraded that I cannot afford to become sick.
I can no longer safely go anywhere alone after dark. My car window was broken out in the middle of the afternoon, directly in front of my local pharmacy by a group of young Mexican males because they didn't like the way I looked at them as they were harassing me outside the pharmacy. After many home invasions, the police visited my condo complex and advised us not to open our doors to anyone we did not know, day or night. I have received several notices from management, not to enter the parking area after dark.
This neighborhood predominantly composed of retirees used to be safe! Now, we are considered prime targets for criminals and the Mexican gangs.
Many Americans everywhere are repeating these same comments. We have laws... We have borders.... Americans have the right to expect those laws to be enforced and those borders to be secured against Illegal foreign nationals streaming into our country unabated and without fear. Against our will, Americans are victimized and must subsidize the illegal aliens' healthcare, crime, education and the advent of diseases that were eradicated in this country when I was a child. American anger is building and there will be a reckoning at some point...of that you may be assured.
