Drop a dime on U.S. Senator Mel Martinez...

;) to Jeffrey, NYC
**
Reuters (and our Senate sources) are reporting at this moment that U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) will become general chairman of the national Republican Party.
The Cuban-born Martinez, 60, often cites his immigrant background as a reason why he must work to rapidly increase the flow of immigrants over already historic highs.
Formerly Bush's secretary of Housing and Urban Development before being elected to the Senate in 2004, Martinez would replace Ken Mehlman who plans to step down in January.Sen.
Martinez has a ā€œDā€ immigration-reduction grade. He was the author of a bill last spring that would have granted the Bush/McCain amnesty and would have doubled the importation of foreign workers to more than 2 million a year.
You can help blunt Martinez' open-borders efforts by protesting his selection this week.
If you are a Republican, start phoning every Republican Party leader (from precinct to state level) whom you know. Ask them to send the word up the ladder that the rank and file want Martinez to promise not to use his position to promote high-immigration and pro-illegal-alien positions at odds with the majority of the Party. Express great concern about him being given the reins of the Party.
Call the White House and complain about this choice.
White House opinion line is (202) 456-1111.
White House switchboard is (202) 456-1414.
If we generate enough controversy, it is possible Martinez may want to start his tenure with an issue a little more popular with the American people, and especially more popular with Republicans.
