31 July 2007: A 21 and-a-half minute video message by Abu Yahya al-Libi, an al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan titled “Of the Masters of Martyrs,” was produced by al Qaeda media arm As-Sahab Productions and disseminated to Muslim terrorists in Arabic and Urdu languages. Al Libi called on Muslims in Pakistan to overthrow the government of President Pervez Musharraf, calling him an "apostate" and a "corrupt tyrant," as well as a puppet of the United States.
He described the Taliban terrorists who seized the Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, and its adjacent Jamia Hafsa (Hafsa University) in Islamabad and who were subsequently killed by Pakistani security forces earlier in July as “martyrs.” Al Libi specifically praised the now deceased Pakistani cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi, deputy of Lal Masjid, and invoked all Pakistan Muslims and Mujahideen to follow the example of the Taliban and fighters in Afghanistan to take up arms against Musharraf. In his particularly strong address, he instructed all Muslim men in Pakistan to “Go to battle together in order to remove this infidel [Musharraf],” and replace his secular rule with Sharia law. Musharraf is facing the strongest opposition to his rule since he seized power in a military coup eight years ago.
