FBI: Extremists seek school bus work

WASHINGTON - Members of extremist groups have signed up as school bus drivers in the United States, counterterror officials said Friday, in a cautionary bulletin to police. An
FBI spokesman said "parents and children have nothing to fear."
Asked about the alert notice, the FBI's Rich Kolko said "there are no threats, no plots and no history leading us to believe there is any reason for concern," although law enforcement agencies around the country were asked to watch out for kids' safety.
The bulletin, parts of which were read to The Associated Press, did not say how often foreign extremists have sought to acquire licenses to drive school buses, or where. It was sent Friday as part of what officials said was a routine FBI and Homeland Security Department advisory to local law enforcement.
It noted "recent suspicious activity" by foreigners who either drive school buses or are licensed to drive them, according to a counterterror official who read parts of the document to The Associated Press.
Foreigners under recent investigation include "some with ties to extremist groups" who have been able to "purchase buses and acquire licenses," the bulletin says.
But Homeland Security and the FBI "have no information indicating these individuals are involved in a terrorist plot against the homeland," it says. The memo also notes: "Most attempts by foreign nationals in the United States to acquire school bus licenses to drive them are legitimate."
Kolko said the bulletin was sent merely as an educational tool to help local police identify and respond to any suspicious activity.
It was not immediately clear whether the extremists intended to do with the school buses. One counterterror official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said it was likely that the foreigners investigated were merely employed as bus drivers, and did not intend to use them as part of any terror plot.

Recall the beltway snipers Lee Boyd Malvo and John Muhammed. According to Malvo, Muhammad had a two-phase plan -- six shootings a day for a month, followed by a wave of bombings of schools, school buses and children's hospitals. Malvo said that when he asked Muhammad why, the older man replied: ''For the sheer terror of it -- the worst thing you can do to people is aim at their children.''
How does this relate?

On January 20th, 2006 at 10pm, Fox5 ran a report about one Jamaat ul-Fuqra compound located in Hancock NY. At the Hancock, NY “headquarters” of Jamaat ul Fuqra,(a little too close to home if you ask me, Jill) a yellow school bus sits on the property, riddled with bullet holes and windows blow out from what appear to be explosions originating from inside of the bus.
Target practice perhaps?

Recall also the case about this school busdriver, Abdelrazeg Abdalla, 31, of Falls Church, charged with several counts, including operating the Academy bus on a suspended license causing a chain reaction pile up. Abdalla was hired as a driver in August after a "comprehensive background check" that he said included a search for any past convictions and "points on his license" but a check of court records in Virginia revealed seven past charges. Abdalla also had a misdemeanor conviction in Fairfax for abducting his estranged wife and 3-month-old daughter at knifepoint.

A man who authorities believe may have been part of an Al Qaeda "sleeper cell" obtained a license to haul hazardous materials months after he was identified as a suspected terrorist by the FBI, officials said.The FBI identified Mohamad Kamal Elzahabi (google this name for more) as a suspected terrorist before the attacks of 2001, the Star Tribune reported in Wednesday's editions, citing unidentified law enforcement officials. Yet Minnesota Department of Public Safety officials said they did not know that Elzahabi was suspected of having Al Qaeda connections when he applied in early 2002 for a commercial license to drive a SCHOOL BUS and haul hazardous materials.

And don't forget about the two trench coat clad Saudi men (Mana Saleh Almanajam and Shaker Mohsen Alsidran) who boarded a Tampa high school bus in May 2006 - alarming the substitute driver and student passengers as these two clowns laughed and spoke only in Arabic along the ride to school.

According to Hugh Fitzgerald of JW: back in 2001, there were reports of a group of Muslim men who were discovered inside several elementary schools in Brookline, and each time, when confronted by a teacher or the principal, explained that they were merely "looking the schools over" in order to see if they were suitable for their children, and they would then disappear. Finally, one principal apparently had the wit to call the police.
Ok, so the police were called. What good will that do if this information is kept from the public?
Not to mention, law enforcement as well as the FBI is receiving "sensitivity training" (GAG) sponsored by the terrorist sympathysing organization known as CAIR (council on American Islamic relations).
Sensitivity training distorts/distracts our law enforcement authorities ability to effectively avert the next tragedy . . .will we be silent and pave the way for an American version of Beslan?
By the way . . .see if you can find an actual copy of this memo. It's not visible on the FBI's website and the article mentions it was issued to law enforcement. Why wasn't this warning issued to every board of education and their respective transportation departments?

Whose a** is covered by not releasing this information to the departments most likely to be affected?
This information should be PLASTERED on the walls of EVERY school office, EVERY board of education office and EVERY single school bus/school transportation office in the nation...NOW.
Most parents, PTA's, PTO's, BOE's, School transportation offices are not aware of these details . . . as parents we must be vigilant and put this information out there and protect our own children.
