If a guest worker amnesty program was to be created, it is a virtual certainty that terrorists and criminals would be able to easily commit immigration fraud as did Ms Prouty, and conceal their identities and intentions, embedding themselves in our country and potentially, in jobs with serious national security implications.

I would ask that you read this news article that appeared in yesterday's edition of the Washington Times, which reported on testimony by Director of National Intelligence McConnell about Iran's increasing influence in Latin America. Clearly the situation where Iran making serious inroads into Latin America should give our nation's leaders serious cause for pause! Over 45 years ago our nation stood on the brink of a war with the former Soviet Union when missiles from that communist nation were found to be situated in the Western Hemisphere. That moment in history is remembered as the "Cuban Missile Crisis."
The news article and McConnell's testimony make it clear that Cuba and Venezuela are teaming up with Iran, a nation identified as being a part of the "Axis of Evil" by the President in the days after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The entire world is alarmed at the prospect of Iran ultimately developing or otherwise gaining possession of nuclear weapons. It is also understood that narcotics trafficking has been historically used to fund criminal activities and terrorism. In order for drugs to enter the United States and then be sold on the streets of our cities. The drugs destroy the lives of those who become addicted to them. Often the addicts are young people whose lives are destroyed. The crimes that addicts commit to get their hands on the money they need often result in the death of innocent people and the destruction of their families. The violence that is associated with the drug trade is of legendary proportions. And the money that is generated by drug traffickers enable the drug trafficking organization to corrupt the governments of the countries in which they operate and enable them to often buy weapons and equipment that is superior to the weapons and resources used by governments that attempt to combat them, including our own country.
Additionally, in forming an alliance with countries in the Western Hemisphere and in working with drug trafficking organizations in Mexico, Iran has developed a relatively easy access to our nation's border. This would easily enable them to send terrorists and weapons of mass destruction across our souther border. It is also important to know that at present, it is estimated that there are some 6 million Muslims living in Latin America. I want to be clear about this, I do not believe that everyone who subscribes to Islam represents a threat to our safety, the issue is that even if only one percent of those six million adherents to Islam are radical in there beliefs, we are talking about quite a few people.
It is also believed that the so-called "Tri-Borders Region" of Brazil is a source of funding for terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Additionally, as I have written in a number of commentaries, Hezbollah has apparently penetrated our federal government's law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Nada Prouty, a citizen of Lebanon managed to obtain resident alien status via a marriage fraud that ultimately enabled her to acquire United States citizenship. Using her language skills and newly acquired U.S. citizenship, she parlayed that immigration fraud into a job as an FBI special agent and then as an employee of the CIA where she is alleged to have accessed highly sensitive databases to determine the progress our government had made in investigating Hezbollah. I have read an account that she had actually accessed highly critical informant files, endangering their lives and imperiling the security of the United States!
When you put all of the pieces of this puzzle together, you realize that while our government is spending incredible sums of money prosecuting the "War on Terror" in Iraq and Afghanistan, also costing our nation literally the lifeblood of our valiant young men and women in the military, our border with Mexico is anything but secure. The immigration bureaucracy that Nada Prouty easily gamed is even less secure than our highly porous borders! There are efforts underway to expand the perilous Visa Waiver Program and each of the three front runners in the presidential campaign have made it clear that they intend to provide amnesty and citizenship to millions of illegal and undocumented aliens. The true names and nationalities of these aliens is, in virtually every case, unknown and unknowable. If a guest worker amnesty program was to be created, it is a virtual certainty that terrorists and criminals would be able to easily commit immigration fraud as did Ms Prouty, and conceal their identities and intentions, embedding themselves in our country and potentially, in jobs with serious national security implications.
Let us quickly review just how insane all of this is. We are regularly informed of the intentions of Al Qaeda to launch attacks inside the United States. We are similarly treated to alarming stories about efforts being made by Iran to acquire nuclear weapons to destroy our nation and our allies such as Israel. We know that these efforts require large sums of money and access to our country. Meanwhile, our borders are as secure as a sieve and the immigration bureaucracy is unable to deal with the massive levels of immigration fraud. As I have stated before Congress as well as in other venues, "A nation without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls!" The military leaders of the United States certainly agree with this statement. One of the very first actions they took when we went into Iraq was to enlist the assistance of the United States Border Patrol, sending Border Patrol agents to Iraq to secure the Iraqi border to stem the flow of terrorists and insurgents into that country. Our military leaders even called for the deployment of the elite BORTAC (Border Patrol Tactical Units) to Iraq while our borders remained vulnerable to the entry of millions of illegal aliens. Among those aliens were and are criminals, gang members and undoubtedly terrorists who may well be here, pre-positioning themselves for the day that they are called into action.
Robert S. Mueller, the Director of the FBI has testified before the United States Senate that he was concerned about so-called "Sleeper Agents" entering our country. George Tenet, the former head of the CIA has talked about similar concerns when he has made public statements about national security. A "Sleeper Agent" is an alien who, in one way or another, gains access to our country and then manages to embed himself (herself) in a community where they hide in plain sight among their intended victims should they be called upon to carry out a terrorist attack in our nation.
