State Assembly members aim to protect illegal immigrants

Several New York State Assembly members held a press conference to announce they've introduced a series of resolutions designed to protect illegal immigrants in New York State and across the nation. After, there was a panel discussion on the tactics used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They're also calling on the Federal Government to repeal the Real ID Act. Instead, they support keeping the "Identification Tax Individual Number.”

"It’s called the ITIN, and the number is being used right now for undocumented who are working in this country without paper. But, they file taxes and that way, it's an avenue to protect the state,” Brooklyn Assemblyman Felix Ortiz said.
The panel also denounced Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, claiming he supports the use of selective enforcement campaigns against immigrants.
