The "Five Pillars" of Islam – charity, fasting, prayer, belief and pilgrimage – are being taught to public school students in Nyssa, Ore., under the guise of world history, the school has confirmed to WND, even though a parent raised a complaint about the same teachings a year ago.
In a letter to parents following the concerns that were raised at that point, Supt. Don Grotting and other school officials told parents that the text called "Journey Across Time" features a chapter on "Islamic Civilizations."
As part of that, "class activities have included guest speakers (including an American soldier serving in Iraq and a practicing Muslim woman who is an American citizen living in Mountain Home) who talked about geography, dress, climate, religion, economy and culture and student skits, in which students prepare and perform three- to five-minute skits about the tenets of Islam belief: charity, fasting, prayer, belief, and pilgrimage."
Janine Weeks, the curriculum director at the school, this week told WND that the curriculum, and class activities, are continuing.
"We've not made any changes," she said. "The content standards require that we present information about the rise of Islam in the context of world history."

The school might better serve their students by teaching about Islam's contributions to the world today:
Pakistan: Extremist threatens to bomb girls' school
Taxila, 20 Sept. (AKI/DAWN) - A religious extremist in have threatened to bomb a girls' school in Taxila in Pakistan's Pubjab province, if the teachers and students do not wear veils.
The principal of the local government high school received a letter from an unidentified man who threatened to bomb the school if the female students and teachers did not wear veils.
In the letter, the man warned that he should not be taken lightly and would carry out his threat if the school administration did not meet his demand.
After receiving the threat, the school administration immediately told the police and they put the school on high alert and deployed armed policemen at the school gate. Security personnel in plainclothes have also been deployed at the school.
Some of the girls at the schools, aged between nine and 10 were seen wearing veils.“Yes we have received a threatening letter from a religious fanatic and we are scared,” Shakeela, acting principal of the school told the Pakistani daily Dawn.
She said the school management did not keep the threat secret and told the students about it. We have told the students that nothing will happen if they wear a veil, she added.
The acting principal said the threat had not affected the students' morale or the daily attendance at the school. They feel secure as armed policemen have been deployed outside the school.
She said it was the first time that they had received such a letter. “This letter could either be a hoax or the work of a fanatic. Personally I believe that it is a hoax, but we cannot take it lightly," the local police officer, Syed Akbar Abbas told Dawn.
