Obama talks family values; ignores liberal role in their errosion

Tuesday March 6 2007 @ 12:42 am
I’m always amused when liberals start talking about family values:
"We have too many children in poverty in this country and everybody should be ashamed, but don’t tell me it doesn’t have a little to do with the fact that we got too many daddies not acting like daddies."
If your memory is longer than your nose, you know liberals, like Obama, relentlessly attack the institutions (marriage anyone?) designed to get those mommies and daddies working as a unit to keep their children out of poverty. For example, liberals are horrified at the idea of encouraging abstinence in schools. That’s so religious and old fashioned. We’ll just provide a check making everyone dependent on the state if they don’t learn how to put the condom on the banana in school correctly. And when Obama says you and I should be ashamed it’s because we aren’t providing a big enough check in his opinion, not because daddies aren’t living up to their responsibilities.
But Obama wasn’t done providing contradictory statements on family values:
"Don’t think that fatherhood ends at conception. I know something about that because my father wasn’t around when I was young and I struggled."
I thought a fetus was still a “choice” at conception through some arbitrary point decided by judges and legislatures? It’s not clear to me how someone can be the daddy of a “choice”. No reporter would dare question him on the apparent contradiction though.
